I admit it. I hate Illinois State more than any other team in the conference. Maybe because their crap is constantly shoved in my face from living here, I know them well enough that I see what they're up to, and how the town bends over backwards to give them anything they want (I'm in favor of that in general, but not to the extent that Normal facilitates their bad behavior).
Walking up to the ticket window, some asshole Illinois State fan from the Will Call window jumped in my way and threw his body in front of me, then gave me a shove. He thought the ticket sales window also did Will Call, so he physically blocked me off. Perhaps he learned to throw his body around and make cheap shots from the dirty, cheap shot ISU players. That's the way they drive here, too. They poke along, and if you try to pass them, they'll speed up or change lanes to block you-- completely out of pure spite. They also like to drive parallel to you in a two lane street, speeding up if you try to pass them, slowing down if you try to let them go by. If you're at the supermarket, and you are looking interested in cans of peas, they will walk up ad loiter in your way. Sometimes they pretend that it's just a coincidence, sometimes they feign that they didn't see you walking directly to that spot, sometimes they make eye-contact with a "HA! I got here first! You can just wait until I decide that I don't want whatever you were going to look at" kind of smirk. I can't figure out if this behavior is because they think they might be missing out on something, or if they're simply out to feel better by making others feel frustrated or upset. Either way, people in this town have a sick joy in being an irritant, or an outright asshole, to others. It's a town full of trolls.
"To tell you the truth, I don't know if we deserved to win that game." -- Dan Muller, post game interview on WJBC
You didn't, Dan. You didn't deserve to win. Your players are cheap shot artists, you got a bunch of home cooking calls, the refs only once (Hawkins toward the end when Doyle was shooting foul shots) warned or called out ISU on the multiple-constant cheap physical shots, and your team wasn't sharp. And did I mention your players are dirty cheap shot artists that play dirty and are cheap?
The worst part was it was Deonte Hawkins, he of the deliberate elbow in the face that doesn't get called, who was the ISU player that gets the mercy bail out foul call trapped and surrounded by three Loyola defenders with 3.9 seconds left. Of all people. Paris "Push Off, Palm Ball" Lee, Deonte "Elbow in the Face" Hawkins, and DJ "Shove Artist" Clayton---- dirty, cheap shot artists.
And then, walking out of the building, I have to listen to the rubes talk about the clutch play of ISU, as though they had any just claim on pride in a victory after that game. Jesus.
