Here are some of my favorites.... share your own.

1. December 18, 2001: Loyola 72, St. Mary's 70. St. Mary's was not yet the occasional ranked team and regular rival to Gonzaga, but they were on their way. Just three days before this game, I drove down to Eastern Illinois-- 201 miles down, 201 miles back, with nothing but barren corn stalk fields as scenery-- to see Loyola break their 24-game road losing streak. Instead it turned into the 25th road loss in a row. To help Loyola break the streak in Moraga, California, former Loyola play-by-play announcer and local resident Red Rush returned to the airwaves to call the second half, where Loyola came from 9 points behind at halftime to win on the road for the first time in two years. Breaking the streak was a big part of Loyola getting to the conference tournament final that season. Loyola lost their next road game at #7 Illinois, but they won their first two conference road games at Milwaukee and Green Bay.

Here's the old Ramblermania story from that game: https://web.archive.org/web/20020220085 ... ry1218.htm

2. January 24, 1994: Loyola 70, Notre Dame 58... aka "Too Much Matt Hawes!" Notre Dame wasn't very good in 1993-94. They finished under .500. Their best player that year was Monty Williams, a 6'8" forward who played nine seasons in the NBA, and later became head coach of the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans. He's now in their front office. But the Ramblers were also pretty bad in 1993-94, even by Loyola standards. And Notre Dame had something like a voodoo curse on the Ramblers, having defeated Loyola in 25 of their 26 previous matchups. To make things more bleak from a Loyola standpoint, the Ramblers' best player, 6'7" senior center Kermin Ali, was injured and ruled out for the remainder of his senior season THE GAME BEFORE Loyola faced Notre Dame in South Bend. So maybe it was emotion, or maybe it was a bad Monday night. ESPN's Sports Center said it was just "Too Much Matt Hawes!" as the sophomore forward scored 22 on the Irish.

3. February 22, 2007: Loyola 75, (15) Butler 71. Loyola was picked to win the Horizon League in 2006-07, but Butler had their first jaw-dropping take down of Power Programs in the non-con by defeating Notre Dame, Indiana, #22 Tennessee, and Gonzaga. They rose to #10 in early February and lost to #16 Southern Illinois at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Loyola had one of my favorite teams-- Schilb, Kou, Young, Polka, Blount, Brandon Woods, Tom Levin, Tracy Robinson-- a great group. I watched the game with Big Joe and several other casual Loyola fans at Yak-Zies on Clark St. Fantastic. The win was Loyola's 20th of the season, securing the first 20-win season at Loyola since 1985. But two days later Loyola lost at home to UIC, 52-51, and then they lost in overtime to #18 Butler in the semifinals of the Conference Tournament as a last second, point-blank field goal attempt bounced off the rim. If the Ramblers won either of those games, it probably would have secured an NIT bid. If they'd won both those INSANELYCLOSEGAMES and lost to Wright State in the conference final, there was a very remote chance at an at-large.

For me this one is easy.
Midwestern City Conference finals 1985
At ORU Mabee Center
LU 89
ORU 83
With Oral himself sitting at the end of the bench. Their home court had ‘Expect A Miracle’ written from free throw to free throw line. ORU had the Acres brothers. It was the last Midwestern City Conference Tournament

“In 1987, television preacher Oral Roberts made a dramatic appeal. If his supporters did not send donations totaling $8 million dollars within three months, he warned that God would "call me home." There were those who complained that Roberts was extorting his viewers and using the Deity as an accomplice, but there was no doubting his charisma — or his results. Roberts received over $9 million, and God did not call him home.”
