Good answer by 01grad. I also want to chime in while we're talking about RPI.... Yes, it's a dumb formula that was created to give statistical cover for the big boys to dominate all the at large bids. It's a little better since they reluctantly gave the formula a "patch" to give more credit for road wins.
But for all those who say it doesn't matter to us, at this point the only thing that matters is Arch Madness, etc., that's not entirely true. RPI will be a factor if we need to get an at large NIT bid, or for seeding in the NIT. RPI will be a factor if we win Arch Madness, because it will help determine whether we're a 14, 13, or 12 seed. And we all know there's a huge difference between a 14 and a 12. So don't listen to all the people who say it doesn't matter, because it does. Ten places in the RPI ranking can be the difference between an NIT postseason or nothing. It can be the difference between facing Xavier, Purdue or North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA tournament, or facing Texas Tech, Arkansas or post-Pitino Louisville. Next season, having a good RPI can be the difference between getting a good team on our schedule or not. And then there's the pride involved in having a good RPI, which is negligible, but can come in handy in an absurd argument.
