The MVC gives out the following postseason player and specialty awards:

Player of the Year/First, Second, Third Team
Newcomer of the Year/Newcomer Team
Freshman of the Year/Freshman Team
Defensive Player of the Year/Defensive Team

Sixth Man/All-Bench Team
Most Improved Player/Most Improved Team

Coach of the Year

With five games left before the ballots are cast, any thoughts on who gets what, which Loyola players show up, or which categories might be a close call? With so much parity, it's going to be interesting.

The conference awards usually come out the Tuesday after the last regular season game, which would be Feb. 27 this year.

As of now, you'd have to say that Porter Moser is almost certainly coach of the year (!), with Barry Hinson also making a play for that title. Funny, those are two of the most controversial coaches in the league, probably the two coaches who have the most admiring detractors and disparaging admirers-- at least when the season started.

POY - Custer
FOY - Krutwig
NCOY - Yarbrough

For coach of the year, I guess whoever wins the league has to be the odds on favorite. If either finishes top 3 or so, I'd definitely give Barry some consideration for what he's done with a short bench and Medved for the improvement at Drake.

Obviously biased here but POY should be Custer and it shouldnt be close. Hes the best player on the best team and has lost a single conference game during his time on the court.

I want Custer to win MVP, and hopefully if we finish strong he gets it, but unfortunately I'm afraid it will still go to Alize Johnson. Definitely both First Teamers, along with Yarbrough are locks, and probably Timmer as well.

Our team may be too deep and scoring spread out to get a lot of guys on the 2nd and 3rd teams, but Donte and maybe Marques get on one of those teams each possibly.

FOY is a race between Krutwig and Pickford out of UNI, if Krutwig keeps these stats up and we finish first I lean towards him. Newcomer probably goes to Yarbrough unless this arrest or any other meltdown affects him.

If Aundre finishes strong he should be a contender for for 6th man again. Nobody else comes to mind right away around the league to me, although I'm probably forgetting somebody.

PotY-Custer
FotY- Krutwig/Pickford (I could see people wanting to spread the vote and not give both to LU)
NotY- Yarborough
CotY- Moser, but Hinson has a great case if they finish second, Medved also may get some votes

Townes and Krut will make all newcomer team... I could see Williamson sneak on the freshman team as well

Krutwig could make second/third team as the center. Ingram should probably make second or third team as well. Jackson all bench.

I agree on coach of the year going to whoever wins the league. If we finish at the top of the valley with single digits in the loss column and the highest RPI, and it doesn’t go to Porter, it’s rigged.

UPDATE: MVC Awards should start coming out tomorrow, if the timing in the past holds again for this year. Tonight, our old friend Jesse Kramer of Catch and Shoot has published how he would vote (he gave up his MVC media vote when he moved back to NYC).

Krutwig is a lock for FOY.

Townes is a lock for 1st team NOC.

Custer is a lock for 1st team All MVC.

Krutwig and Donte will make 2nd/3rd team All MVC.

Closer call for POY and COY. I can understand the resistance of some voters to giving the Ramblers a virtual sweep of all the major awards. The question is who will get the screw job. My guess is Porter will win COY but Clayton will be passed over because some voters will figure he has a year of eligibity remaining and will get another chance next year.

There is no way Timmer doesn't make first team, and Tevonn Walker from Valpo will probably be somewhere on the list.
