Congratulations Loyola!

I remember 1963. I was 11 and watched it, delayed maybe, on glorious black and white television in St. Louis. My family was from Chicago, but Daddy got transferred.

What a year for Chicago and Illinois teams!: Loyola winning it all (Illinois putting in a good showing in the tourney); Bears NFL champs in December; Illinois and Butkus winning the Rose Bowl.

I will be rooting for the Ramblers.

Just thought you'd like to know, if you don't know already, a Loyola great died last week in DeKalb: Jack Carpenter, all-50s decade team. He was a member of my parish, St. Mary in DeKalb.

Just wish he'd been around to see Loyola in the tournament, but I'm sure he was aware the Ramblers were having a great season.
