Nobody is fading him at all...we just all also realize that the majority of coaches who take P5 jobs arnt there for the long term. If Thad Matta can get fired, pretty much anyone can.

Also Porter is a great program builder, and has developed into an excellent in game coach as well at Loyola. I think he is the best coach for Loyola and I want him to stay forever....but hes not the best coach in the country and we dont have to act like he is.

I just have to ask --- do you guys ever think that maybe just maybe -- he actually is a good coach and won't get fired from his next stop or from Loyola? I have not seen many people fade a final four coach to this degree.

I think Porter is great coach! I wouldn’t want anyone else in the country right now as Loyola’s coach. I hope we do everything we can to keep him here. All I’m saying is that big schools that shell out a ton of money are often impatient and want to see results right away. Porter obviously has learned that building a strong team up takes time and patience - something he got at Loyola and might not get at a P5 school. No “shade” intended.

In MY opinion--from the sidelines of course--This is NOT about Porter--He wants to stay---This now seems to me to be about SOME in high places---They appear to want LUC to be a JOHN CARROLL or SPRING HILL--fine schools scholastically but not a Georgetown or Boston College !! LUC did NOT expand Gentile ( or agree to have it done)--same with new practice facility so we could SINK into relative scholastic security !! OUR LOYOLA is a BIG TIME SCHOOL in a BIG TIME CITY !!

The feet dragers MUST help or remove themselves from this. LUC will soon be able to reap the benefits accrued by our FINAL FOUR appearance--YOU KNOW money and prestige !!

GEORGETOWN OR SPRING HILL !!! Which will it be ???

Agreed. Nobody here is arguing Porter isn’t worthy. It’s being critical of the patience of P5 schools, donors, and fans. No possible way that Illinois, for example, gives Porter the 7 years he’s had here. He’s probably gone from there after year 3. Heck, some (Crazy) Illinois fans were recently already at Underwood’s throat...in year one of a complete rebuild.

It’s just recognizing and pointing out the two different universes of expectations and patience.

Did anyone hear Watson on Mully and Hanley this morning? It was interesting.

First, Watson said that he has been having talks with Porter this week, and they have been going well. He said these things take time but he is confident that they are going to get the deal put together for him to stay.

Second, they asked him if he was aware if other schools have reached out to Porter and if you read between the lines you could tell he was frustrated with that process. He talked about how it used to be where athletic directors from interested schools would call up the coach’s current athletic director and ask for permission to talk to the coach, and he said unfortunately, that’s not the way it is now. Ultimately, he answered the question and said that other schools have reached out to Porter.

Watson confirmed that they are in talks with the Bahamas for a tournament

They also asked him about what the barometer is as far as putting a deal together Porters salary and referenced Ben Jacobson is $900,000 deal. I was pleased with Watson‘s response because he said that they are not just looking at our conference when they are trying to put a deal together, but they are looking into deals that were done with teams that did similar to what we’ve done, referencing VCU, George Mason, Butler Wichita State. That’s encouraging. The indication I got was that they are trying to put together a long-term deal, with Watson saying “we want Porter to be our coach for a very long time “

I'm not surprised by this, and I believe the same to be true for Porter's assistant coaches. They are hot commodities as well.

If anyone can find the interview online, please post it!

I’m just jaded. Of course Porter and this team have changed things forever at Loyola but what does that really mean. I will be highly critical that Watson says his work starts now. It should have started a least year ago and maybe even longer. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail. Why was nothing in place before this amazing run happened. If Watson really thought Porter was able to achieve this level then why weren’t you prepared for it. This athletic department has always been reactive and it should be the exact opposite. From Shane to Swoopes, many situations have been mishandled with disastrious results. Steve Watson will never have the authority to negotiate a contract to make Porter the highest paid employee by 5X. It’s that type process that will allow someone to swoop in and take Porter away. Watson should report directly to Rooney. She needs to know what Watson’s opinion is on what other schools will offer. His comment about an old school way of doing things is just dumb. Why would any school tell him what they are doing? That doesn’t benefit them and those types of statements I find frustrating. Standards of measures should have been in place from the first day he took over for varying levels of success. From engagement to donations to revenue to attendance, because without those measurements how do you know where you are at. This is the way a successful business is run. Loyola has the opportunity to really get this going but will we end up like George Mason and see this a 4-5 year run or will we be Butler who is now competing on a national stage year in and year out. I know first hand that Butler was prepared for their success and had structure in place for their hoops program to grow and succeed. Unfortunately, Loyola is already behind. The race has started and Loyola didn’t know there was a race. Will the board of trustees become more involved and lend their expertise in the private sector and help Watson put together a sound model? Will Watson reach out to the Alumni base and ask for that kind of help? I really just don’t know after 35 years of watching all of this. I want to see OUR UNIVERSITY excel and show the world how great it is. I owe a great deal to my Loyola education. I have both a BA and an MBA that have given me the tools to make my way way through life. I am fiercely protective of Loyola and will hold the stewards accountable, as we all should. The stakes of the game have gone up and will keep going up.
BTW, I love our boy Mully was quoting directly from the article I posted earlier in this thread.
