Connolly's was a dive bar on Devon that was THE place to go on St. Paddy's day. Had my first Guinness there.

Apparently it closed in the late 90s after the owners shot an African American guy in the bar.

Across the street and a little farther west from Connolly's on Devon is Cuneens, which is still in business after 40 plus years or so.
It had (has?) a bit of a hippie vibe. It was okay but never a big fan.

Cunneens is a very good bar. Low key, with a regular crowd.

I'll have to check Double Bubble out. Looks promising from what I saw online.

There is always an ebb and flow of the bars around campus.

Damn shame about Hamilton's. I can't tell you how many times I dined at the feast known as Midnight Madness. I loved those waffle fries.

I love Cuneens. Nice place to hang out and the beer is dirt cheap. Definitely n the quiet side. I've seen people studying in there.

They have Wi Fi, so you can study if you want....

Bill Savage (aka Rogers Park Man on Twitter) and folk music artist Eddie Holstein used to bartend there.
