Thanks Blers. Good research.

I guess the $1.6 mil was accurate.

Did anybody else hear about the Pittsburgh offer before? That is very interesting.

Are we sure the "bit about Pitt" wasn't in reference to Nate Oats?

Blers has good research skills; reading comprehension and recognizing context skills not so much.

Not sure if we can turn this into a general coaching carousel thread...but, Buffalo's Nate Oats to Alabama. He was connected to some of the same gigs as Porter (UNLV comes to mind) so this is newsworthy.

There are some decent jobs opening up - Washington St, Nebraska, Vandy, St, Joe's, UCLA, BYU and Texas A & M.

In terms of Porter Alert:

Sounds like Joe's may be working towards a contract with 76ers' assistant, Billy Lange.

Nebraska is targeting Fred Hoiberg and seems they may be close.

Washington State has reportedly hired USF's Kyle Smith.

BYU will hire a Mormon.

UCLA will be aiming high.

Vandy gives me pause.

Texas A&M has unlimited money and will likely try to poach a successful P5 coach.

No idea on the reliablity of the source, but this thread speculates that Hoiberg talks have stalled and Nebraska approached Wardle.

Porter would want a school that would be loyal and give him time to build. Vandy showed they’re clearly not that type of school after dumping their coach after three years (after a year in which their best, McD AA player was hurt).

Texas A&M I could see Porter leaving for if they choose to go after him at some point. They have plenty of resources to dump a ton of cash in his lap, and he was an assistant there for most of the 90’s. I think I remember hearing he met his wife while down there, so there may be family roots in Texas as well.

If aTm comes calling with their cash, that could just be one of their summer homes.

All that being said, I don’t see them going after him this time around.

Just to put this all in perspective, this got me thinking about how this is still a great position for Loyola to be in. Does anybody remember the last time a Loyola head basketball coach leave for a bigger coaching job?

The answer is John Jordan, who in 1951 left LU for Notre Dame. His replacement: George Ireland.
