Wow. Way to bring down the room, Swella. That episode must be haunting for everyone involved.

The Lake is nothing to fool with. Growing up as a beach bum in California, I had a tendency to underestimate or diminish it before moving to Chicago. Sometimes it can look as tame as a backyard swimming pool, but a week later it can also look like the Bering Sea on one of those fishing boat reality shows.

Maybe ill-advised (bonehead?) stunts like this are part of the culture that needs to change before we can build a great program. Yet just a couple of weeks ago we were all suggesting that the team needs to loosen up and have fun. It's a fine line.

63 has it about right as usual--The culture MUST change for the program to rise. I look at it as a team member's dedication and his duty to his team and scholarship to be above the nonsense--This does not mean that O'Leary or anyone with responsibility should shut himself away from enjoyment--Far from it--BUT Moser does or should check Maturity when recruiting--
Ask yourself--Would Ireland, Sully. Wooden , Coach K put up with this ? I doubt it. The Admin says they are after a winner--This incident tells me more than simple wins or losses do. I wonder if they really and truly are.
We shall see how this plays out.

You know, it might all boil down to this--Is this bunch really willing to go all out to win--or are they just going through the motions, and that includes the Coach, AD and others under Fr G.

GROW UP RAMBLERS

Normally I agree with the things that Brot says. I think this time though it is a bit over the top. This is a team prank (if it is true) and for one I think the team did need to loosen up a bit. That still makes this dumb but then who has not done dumb things in their youth.
I know for certain that the coach, the AD and Father G all do care about the program and winning. Heck, you don't get into a head coaching job nor an AD job is you don't give a S.tore H.igh I.n T.ransit. (the actual source of that word is an acronym meaning just that and it referred to storing manure in leaky wooden boats).
Ditto for Father G. It is an all out university effort to make Arch Madness a success. You can't control everything.
Hey, Brot how are we doing for the 25th?

Which post do I go with? The one you just wrote or the one along time ago on January 9th where you talk about how hard the coaching staff is working?

Brot, athletes getting injured while goofing around is not limited to the college ranks; it happens in the pros too, with serious consequences:

Let us no mistake--The coaching group IS and has been a buzz saw of work--That statement still stands . BUT, also having lived in Fargo for 'Forty years" one four year period--, COLD weather was a big deal NOTHING to fool with--Grammar school kids knew this, same a they knew NOT to play with prairie rattle snakes--GRAMMAR SCHOOL !!!

I still ask the question --Would Ireland, Sully, Wooden or Coach K---Add Izzo to that list, put up with this ??

Perhaps a player or two do not have minds on business--This thing tells a lot. CRIPES !! Have fun---Enjoy your College time--BUT do not ignore your responsibility. I submit this young man put his fun before wise thought. He may have cost the team--Does that not mean anything.

And yes, I want LUC back on top of the heap--We made it in 85--but not since. Did I over-react ? Maybe , in this context--I doubt it.

25th--In trouble--Kidney stuff--Not dialysis , thank Heavens--

My sights are set on ARCH MADNESS--Meanwhile I shall view us on WEB or ESPN-- This entire mess may just weld what is left of our team into a real winner--I wager it does. Look to THOMAS--All heart, guts and talent !!

If I raised hackles on my Board Pals, I am truly sorry--I just feel we deserve a winner--NOW ! And this matter does us and the youngster no good

Brot is was just funnin' ya. I sensed your deeply frustrated and justifiable so.

Let me say this about Wooden. If you talk to Larry Farmer a lot of Wooden is legend and not fact. He winked and nodded at a lot of shenanigans. Lets face it if you had Alcindor/Jabbar and Walton, you would tolerate a lot. There were many a time that Wooden winked and nodded when alums let the team run wild. If you ever get a chance to talk to Larry he would tell you some interesting stories. But I do grant you it is never 16 below in LA.

Just speculating here, trying to put 2 and 2 together, but I wonder whether the fact that London Dokubo didn't play in the SIU game suggests that he is the unindicted co-conspirator in Toe Learygate that Ramblin Ray alluded to.

London played in each of the previous 14 games, averaging a not insubstantial 6.8 mpg. Maybe he was held out of the SIU game for disciplinary reasons, and not because of matchups, etc.

If so, he's earned the nickname Toe-cube-o.

Hey guys-there's too many of you who continually put up with Loyola mediocrity in basketball.Hell,we haven't been to the Big Dance since 85-coming close, just once. All this positive spin from many of you-that things are getting better.I've heard that line over 4 or 5 coaching changes in the last 30 years. It's totally frustrating as an alum and a fan to see this dismal run continue year after year after year. And yet there are quite a few of you that think we are getting better.Well getting better and finishing in the bottom half of conference standings year after year does not spell "GETTING BETTER" for me.I think many of you have seen loss after loss after loss and have totally accepted it.For me,it isn't happening.Yes,I'll continue to cheer them on,each and every single game, but I think it's high time that more of you express what Brot feels and I feel-"we're fed up with mediocrity and we're not going to take it anymore."

Ray - We all want to win. What were your expectations for this season, though? I'll give you my answer.
