This was all on Krutwig. He was 4 for 13 on field goal attempts (mostly layups or short hooks) and 3 for 7 on free throws. Not to mention his team leading 5 turnovers.

We likely get the joy of hearing how Drake split the title with us despite being down one of their best players and despite us having one of the better teams analytically in MVC history.

To be frank, it was an inexcusable loss. We are at the point where 50 points in a game with the guys we have...that should NOT happen. We have one of the best players in conference history and he didn't even get a touch during the pivotal final possession...that just cannot happen.

They made a lot of mistakes and should have won this game. I hope this is a learning lesson for the team. We've had disappointing close games in past seasons that were reminiscent of this game. I'm thinking that Bradley Arch Madness game in 2019 in specific. It's reasonable that we lose a couple of games this season. At least we have not seen any blowout losses like we have in previous seasons, like the InSU or MO St away games of last year. We're still better situated. Drake is down Hemphill. That impacted them this weekend, and will impact them in St. Louis.

I'm not going to get too down on them. Thankfully, we likely have an auto bid into the tournament. Even if we have another game in Arch Madness where we fuck up like we did tonight, we can still go to the big dance. My goal this season is to see them win one game in the NCAA tournament. And I think that is reasonable given the level of talent we have.

Norris hit the three in that second moving screen call, too. Game changer if that counts.

Totally right. That call was atrocious. Krutwig screened and rolled, sealing the defender. That's it.

We were getting called on the moving screen during the game and Drake was not. I don't believe these equaled out today. That happens. The truth is, we still had it in our hands. Drake had some good fortune i.e. the three pointer from Murphy that was an errant pass to the corner heading out of bounds. But we had a few bounces go our way too. The bottom line is if you miss layups and FTs, you tend to lose close games. If you turn the ball over more than 2x than your opponent, you tend to lose games. Give Drake credit, they made the plays when they needed to be made and played very good defense holding us to 55. Coach De Vries did a nice job of never letting us get rhythm. It seemed any time our offense got going, there was a timeout.

With all the things we did wrong we still only lost by a point in overtime on a visiting court.
I certainly think travel fatigue was a factor. Heck, I would take 7-2 in the valley on the road every year. As for blaming Porter, sure blame him for the loss if you are also willing to give him credit for the "w's".
He has done one heck of a job, keeping the team focused and overcoming all types of adversity.
Sometimes also a late season loss shakes things up a little bit and forces everyone to step back and realize you have to close out games which we did not do yesterday.

For all the disappointment and worry over the last 18 hours, after the weekend we’re still higher in the NET and Kenpom than we were on Friday. Pretty comfortably still at 10 in KenPom, in fact. The schedule will take a hit playing Valpo and SIU to finish, so we’ll have to win comfortably to keep those numbers.

Drake moved back up to 35

Missouri State is now in the 80’s, creeping close to Quad 1 category for us.

North Texas is around 72, with a big weekend coming up against Western Kentucky.

I think this weekend proved for me once again that for all the metrics and predictions and "two-bid Valley" talk, what I really want is to just win every damn game.

Amen Ahunte. While the loss stings since it was winnable and we let it slip away, how great is it that the program is at a point where we expect to win every game, especially big ones? The vast majority of us have been fans from when the program was in the dumpster, it’s great to see how it’s grown. I hope to see drake again in the MVC final and beat them by 35 to take the rubber match. Hopefully the team will review the film and learn from the errors yesterday.

Let’s keep enjoying the ride and get finish off sweeping Valpo and Southern.

I am pleased with the split, but I think we could have done more. I hope that this set back makes us a better team.

We did a lot of little things wrong. I thought when we were up by 9, we rushed some shots and lay-ups. Easy stuff to fix.

The moving pick calls looked bogus to me, but, admittedly the camera coverage wasn't great.

I think we should have had Clemons in there more. I think he is stabilizes the offense.

I did not understand the timeout Porter used when we crossed the timeline. It was a wasted time out. We didn't have it at the end of the game.

I am pleased at the way the younger players have stepped up. Kennedy and Welch look like they are ready for prime time.

The upside of these back to backs is that it is good tournament prep. I think the MVC should be tournament ready.
