I think it would be insane to think DePaul isn’t throwing the kitchen sink at Porter to come there. They know Saint Johns offered him 2.6 a year to go in 2018. Porter isn’t stupid. He wouldn’t give them a deal to take over that dumpster fire. He has to be there number 1 target, and if they don’t have a great pitch, they have no chance.

If their pitch couldn’t pull an NBA assistant with a Kentucky pedigree on a .500 team to go there, I’m assuming they blow making offers. I wouldn’t be surprised at Texas kicking the tires on Porter, but I think he knows better than to go to DePaul. Some people are confident Porter could turn it around. I say, no way. That’s a six year rebuild, and DePaul is too dumb to realize it.

Multiple sources now confirming that Mike Woodson will become the next bball coach at IU, and Thad Matta will serve as associate AD.

With Marquette and IU making their hires, I don't think Porter leaves next season. DePaul is still on the table, but most have already discussed why that is not a great job for Porter, even if they're willing to give him more money than Loyola at the moment.

For Porter, it's not just about the money. He already comes from a pretty wealthy family and the ~ $1.1M he's making at Loyola is nothing to scoff at. The man is a competitor...he wants to win on a consistent basis. Loyola would be wise to recognize his worth and give him another pay bump and the additional resources needed to keep the momentum going.

I’d much rather have Porter than Woodson, no matter the program

A couple of posts in this thread didn't receive much (any) attention, but they represent the most concrete information that we know other than the vacancies that have been filled.

Loyola cannot retain its head coach forever by simply pulling on heartstrings. But as has been demonstrated by the Gonzaga model, having the same head coach throughout is kind of important. “You don’t see schools at our level who are turning over coaches regularly who are able to sustain that success,” Watson says. “Porter, he’s the right guy, without a doubt. So that retention is really, really important for us.”

What might the school do about it? Those gears, evidently, are already turning.

“We talk almost every day,” Watson says. “There are opportunities and schools out there that I’m 100 percent sure are interested in having Porter be their coach. But he’s been saying it ever since we got the bid to get into the tournament — he’s 100 percent invested in seeing this thing through and is all-in with Loyola. And we’re all-in with him. We’re committed, he’s committed and we’re having discussions about what that’s going to look like in the future for him. I’m excited about having him be our coach for as long as we can keep him. And I think that’s going to be a really long time.”

I knew IU wouldn't pick Porter. IU couldn't pick another outsider with a resume of building a mid-major program. They needed and wanted an IU guy and they got it.

I think DePaul will go with a retread, like Archie Miller rather than trying to rebuild with Gates, Powell or Scheyer

well the worst part for me is always feeling helpless in the whole process...i pretty much do what I am able to do...but it got me to thinking watching that Porter post game press conference and how absolutely in pain he looked...that maybe letting him know that he had not let us down that the Loyola community is genuinely a community that appreciates what he and the team have done this year, win or lose , might help.
I am sure you can send an email or note through the athletic department. Was actually something that I learned in a philosophy class at LU,,,,that a value is not something you just say, it is something you take an action on.

How any of you are as stupid as me today and keep compulsively coming on here and checking Twitter all day to see if a player or Moser has announced they staying or going?

Only during the time I take a break from work.

On a completely unrelated note, work has been pretty slow today, allowing for at least one break per hour.
