One typical comment I liked on their site was talking about how lame it is that Loyola has volleyball markings on the floor.

I guess only fans of teams that are actually ranked #1 in the country would know the reason for that.

Or it could be that we removed our from the court years ago. It doesn't prevent us from housing a Top 25 volleyball program in Koch Arena. It's a minor thing, but I do think it looks better when on national TV to not have them. But that may just be a personal preference.

Except that men's volleyball season runs at the same time as basketball, and we've had men's or women's basketball games and men's volleyball games on the same day several times this year. Also, we get over 2000 people for some men's volleyball games, and Gentile Arena is going to be the site of the NCAA Final Four this year.

I understand. I'm just saying that we still remove the lines. We've had VB/Basketball double headers in the past when the ladies are finishing up their season. I'm not judging by any means. I understand where you guys are coming from. I'm just saying I was thrilled when they removed the permanent lines that used to be on our court.

Did Porter Moser make a big deal about it like Gregg did back in '09? The profanities were amazing.

Must have missed something in the article that referred to Marshall's profanities or you have some great seats to hear them over the crowd noise. Really bringing something up that happened 5-6 years ago on someone else's board. Stay classy.

Well, now it starts--idiotic comments re Volleyball lines ?? Cuss words five or so years ago ?? All brought on because Van Fleet and his partner executed a perfect Alley-oop unguarded against a walk-on--How Butlerish of WSU !! Cripes I thought we were done with that junk.

I would trust that 3G as Sub calls visits with the two of them--I would not want their little boy feelings hurt--so I am sure he will go easy !!
Good learning experience though--MVC style, perhaps ???

Total lack of class. What starts around.........

Go RAMBLERS

Sine 3G has been here, that's the first time anything like that has ever happened. I've seen walk-ons with a chance at easy points pull the ball out and run the clock. This one play is not indicative of how WSU is.

OK, we're getting off track here, and the way it happened is by citing a few ignorant nutballs who write foolish things on a message board in the heat of competitiveness. I'm probably the most to blame by bringing up the volleyball comment. The only reason I did it was to show that most WSU people (the comment was uncorrected) don't know all that much about our sports program. There's a lot of willful disdain and ingorance about us, mostly because we're the new guy, and "replacing" a top program that bolted the conference. That's somewhat understandable, but I wish people would put in some minimal effort to investigate what we have to offer. I think if they did know that we're ranked #1 in the country in men's volleyball, coming off a Final Four appearance, and hosting the Final Four this year, they wouldn't make silly digs about having volleyball lines on the court.

The best way to avoid this is to always have a healthy respect for the competition, and to try to put yourself in the place of the people you're criticizing. It's hard to do when you're caught up in euphoria over your team doing so well (or in our case, defensiveness over the team doing so badly). You'd also hope that the people covering teams in the media would help by doing things like what Wichita Eagle reporter Paul Suellentrop did last night on Twitter, answering questions about Loyola, and NOT doing what that TV station in Wichita did on media day, by mocking our fans and belittling our program with stereotypes and snark. I know that there was a "flame war" (a fierce internet commenter exchange) over an incident between WSU and ISU last year, and I'd like to avoid that. Best way to do it is to respect the opponent and put yourself in their shoes. Hard to do when passions are high, but worth it.

The Wichita beat writer has an online blog and talks about the game the following day. Had some very nice comments about the campus, he says is the most striking in the mo valley, lots of activity even after the game. Has several quotes from PM and feels that long term LU can be at the very top of the Valley. The blog is called Shockwaves by Paul Sullentrop. Not all of our "journalists" are lazy and or snarky.

Exactly. That's why I called him out for doing an excellent job. He didn't sugarcoat Loyola's minuses, but he made a point of dispelling some of the misconceptions about Loyola while adding some additional information. I re-Tweeted some of his reporting last night. He almost seemed surprised by our facilities and committment (possibly because there had been so much misinformation about us before he saw our situation in person).

And by the way, POGO, we like having you and SubGod here to give the WSU perspective. Thanks. Anyone else from WSU or any other team is welcome.

63 ... you nailed it ... it's all about respect. I hope one day, and I believe it will happen, when we are on top of the valley we will remember the comments made made over on the other board, and do the right thing and lead by example. Subgod and pogo ... it's great to hear your perspective, and when you make it to Chicago ... a beer on me! That said, after Arch madness is done I will become a huge WSU fan!!
