Sir Brot - I've got nothing but the highest respect for Fr. G. I'd never celebrate a negative having to do with him.

Fr G is the best thing to happen to Loyola in years. I hope it stays that way--Still lots to do.

My guesses:

- Loyola is leaving the MVC and accepts an invitation to join the New Big East?
- Some alum is donating a lot of money? (You guys hear about the $10 million donation for the business school?)

I have two guesses, both good news:

1. Marlon Jones, a 6'8" center from Chicago Orr Academy, commits to the Ramblers.

2. Grace Calhoun gets canned.

I based my first guess largely on the tweet smokeyjoe cited, plus other recruiting tidbits I picked up on the internet.

My second guess is mostly wishful thinking, but also takes into account how 08 phrased his little teaser, and the fact that 25yearstreak visited Ramblermania last night around 10:30. I figure Streak got wind of the same rumor as 08 did at around that time, but didn't post anything. Streak is more of an office politics than recruiting guy, so I figure the impending news might have something to do with the AD.

I put the chances of it being either one or the other at around 60%, but I am not fully discounting the Brot-as-coach speculation either...

[b]Swella your deductive reasoning is brilliant. If I had to take a guess I would say that Dr. Calhoun and Dr. Kelly may be gone tomorrow. How they choose to phrase it is their prerogative. I hope this is true because it will show Fr. G. is a big enough man to admit to mistakes he has made.

Putting it on a Monday instead of announcing during the weekend makes me think it's something they want known and want to get the most press of it they can. I would think this would be something positive instead of a firing, but who knows

Thanks Zeke.

Applying my "brilliant" deductive reasoning to your post, I conclude that you have some inside information on what's happening.

Interesting that Dr.Kelly is also in the mix.

If this comes to pass, I am going to have a field day!

I would agree that Dr. Kelly has been largely unsuccessful in his role as VP of Student Development. But, I don't think 08 would consider the firing of two people as a "great day to be a rambler" type of day.

I thought about the timing too. I understood that if you wanted to bury news during the era of newspaper hegemony you would announce it on a Friday afternoon. This might no longer be the case with the internet 24/7 news cycle.

However, I can think of nothing more "positive" for Loyola athletics than the firing of Grace Calhoun...

Less of a burying effect these days, but putting it on a day where sports news isn't completely dominated by NCAA tournament scores probably helps a little

Verbal Commits has Jones with interest from Texas A&M, Colorado St., Missouri, Baylor, and Purdue. It's kind of a pie-in-the-sky notion that he commits tomorrow, especially considering that we might not have a scholarship for him and signing day isn't for another month.

If somebody was fired, then they'd probably announce it by now instead of waiting until Monday. A coaching change would also take place quickly.

My guess is either something big with the volleyball tournament (maybe announcing a sell out?) or we're adding a new sport, probably lacrosse but maybe baseball? My third unrealistic guess but really wish this was the case is that we have some sort of agreement to play a few out-of-conference games at the UC. This would go a long way in bringing in some really good names.
