The blowout as expected happened
SLU was ahead for 38 minutes

Good to see a fair number of students show up

Glazkov 11pts with 3 threes, his best game this season
Rubin 2 blocks, no fouls
Moore 12 pts with 2 threes

Maybe we can beat Fordham this Wednesday?

this team reminds me of cooking with my grandkids....the ingredients are solid...but the grandkids cant read and often through in pepper when they are thinking cinnamon.....no knowledge of measurement....cant follow a recipe. and like the Ramblers when they are done they have created a mess and I say I love it.....
There are so many things wrong this year from over rated talent, to trying to match it to the correct offense and defense..and on like the silly turnovers. Its like we need to bring in Gordon Ramsey from Hells kitchen....
Questions are. 1. Do we have the ingredients in the cupboard for next year ? 2. Do we have the chef that couldnt make a pie out of this group have it in him to make a new recipe out of the same ingredients next year? 3. Do we have to sweep everything off the table into the garbage can and start all over....ingredients, recipe and chef??

Side note...The SLU 3 point guys Sharma and Dunlap in particular...quick releases....could release when guarded...Our 3 point specialists(?) seem to have to take time, often get blocked . When I look back I think Sheldon Edwards as a quick and accurate 3 point shooter. This to me was a mistake in evaluation.

As expected, no shot.

Thought the slow and deliberate pace we gave SLU was a winning strategy but too many lousy shots, pointless threes, and costly turnovers.

Amos 0-7, 0-5, 4-4 FT. 4 points.

Tavarez 3-11 on threes and the team 10-38 on threes is not any offense and proof we don’t have one.

Rubin was more effective on the bench than on the floor.

Just a sadder sight to see that Robbie Avila at one point could have been a Loyola Rambler, but wasn’t pursued as hotly as Rubin was at the time. Avila excelled and dominated in the MVC. Now is doing the same in the faster and more athletic A10. If he wanted to go to a Big10 or SEC program no doubt he’d ball there too. Missing on this guy was one of Drew’s all time biggest recruiting mistakes, and I believe a contributing factor to why we haven’t sustained well and elevated ourselves to the next level. You’d be crazy to not want a 6-10 280 pounder center who can lead the team in assists, shoot threes, hit FT’s, and make everyone around him better like he did for Indiana State and now does for SLU. Just makes no sense to me how Drew has always wanted a good professional level offense and take a pass on Avila whose production and play would be the centerpiece of it like it has under Schertz. I’m just so sick of how we recruit best talent on paper over smartest basketball player available. What a huge huge huge and regrettable program sustaining miss. It would have been appreciated if Rubin was motivated to play last night, and between the two and what they bring to the table I think I’d want Avila as my starting center instead. He makes everybody on the floor better!

Glazkov !!!!!! 3 straight games, best guy we’ve got !!!!! Learned to shoot!

SLU 23 assists, remarkable stat.

Talked to some program insiders and donors last night. Overall vibe I got is we need drastic changes to staff and roster. I think we all want a plan for next year and an exact portal and recruiting strategy so we don’t spiral out of control any further, screw this up beyond immediate repair, and have another repeat season….. frustratingly it seems like nobody here has a plan and the program’s front office isn’t giving any transparency or has a strategy whatsoever. We need a state of the union address from Drew and Watson. We all deserve that at this point.

Other interesting intel received is on our two freshmen. They have handlers and meddling family and these handlers could be influencing their play and participation in the present and future. Love’s injury might not be a real injury in reality.

Not surprised about Chuck Love. His dad seems like a nightmare, former Nebraska women's coach who got fired for sleeping with a player.

In all likelihood, after a season like this we should expect everyone to transfer out. I really don't see any reason to keep Drew around, I definitely don't trust him to rebuild the team from scratch.

I'm pushing for the Porter re-hire because that at least keeps some continuity to our resurgent period. We have good financial resources at least, but who knows how long that will continue to be the case. Otherwise, we're just starting from scratch, and the best we can hope for is to be a stepping stone for some up and comer -- I mean even Drew I'm certain would leave the second he made the tourney without Porter's guys, as indicated by the fact he interviewed for the Xavier job last offseason. We don't owe him any loyalty. Maybe he can make a run at the Oakland job at some point, but he should be done here.

If this program takes itself seriously and wants others to do so then Drew has to be let go. He has a job to do and he’s not doing it. His first year in the A10 he got a pass, at this point he’s supposed to learn and grow. I’m not seeing that happening. I don’t see the argument for him getting another chance.

It has been a painful year to watch. It is a bad mix of players. The new players are some of the most talented players we have ever had - at least on paper. However, they play more like an AAU team. When Caleb Reese and Houinsou are on the floor - they seem dedicated to run the plays. The other players seem to be a step out of sync and have not improved. In past years, Drew impressed me with his ability to get the team to improve during the course of the season. The only players who have improved during the season are Nic Anderson, Alexander Richardson and, recently, Glazkov.

I am not convinced that Drew is the problem. This is his worst season. However, the last time he had a bad season - he had two great seasons - from worst to first in A10 in 2023-2024 and a run to the NIT Final 4 in 2024-25.

There is a chemistry issue. I am not sure if he has lost a player or two and that has impacted the entire team or if they misevaluated a player or players.

Also, there is no doubt we miss Quinn, Dawson and Edwards. Unfortunately, Dawson has played less than 200 hundred minutes at KU (about 100 of those minutes were in November) which is 20 minutes less a game than he had last year with LU. We also miss Jalen Quinn. He is averaging 33 minutes a game and 19.8 points at Drake. Add to that no Sheldon Edwards. This backcourt does not have the same experience, energy or drive. It impacts our play. Oddly, Caleb Reese seems like our only guard who is dedicated to run the offense.

Robbie Avila was a miss, but you can make that argument about 300+ teams.

Unfortunate to hear that about the freshman...but man $ changes everything. Every player is a commodity that cant be wasted. Made me think that Drews downfall this year was he took too many risks on players where he took athletic prowess and potential over culture team fit. Combine that with loosing the two most experienced players in the system, Dawson and Quinn, who could have been gatekeepers and leaders and you have the mess you have. As I have said b4 I can stick with and root for a team that looses but plays hard and together. Do you think this is still possible? or can the best we can hope for is hired guns who play well for a year....and leave? On a side issue Drew looks miserable...Knowing that besides the bad season, uncooperative players and has to deal with meddling parents...good grief maybe HE doesnt want to come back?

Yeah, no shit. Nobody tweaks their knee and misses three months. Some people want to play and some people don't.

So this is what I am talking about. I can support a losing team. playing hard, playing together, improving as they go. But if I catch you correct, Love is faking to get a red shirt year? Harris left/got ran out and we have a couple guys that to me look like they have thrown in the towel Moore and Rubin, some guys playing hard for themselves and Drew looking alternately mad then disillusioned and then there are the kids that just have it in themselves to play hard no matter the conditions or the drama.
If we start over next year with just culture kids,,,who on this team fits that description?

Kind of reminds me of a 5th grade girls team I coached where there was a dispute between two of the players and a boy that occurred at the Santa Claus dance. It grew into cliques and one group refused to pass the ball to anyone in the other clique. The 3 girls who were not in the cliques couldnt hit the floor with a basketball. So I had to design an offense where one clique was on one side and the other on the other side. Turned out okay as neither side could shoot very well and the ones who didnt have the ball realized the only way to get was to rebound the missed shots of the other clique or get a steal on defense. Awful glad when that season was over....just like this one....
