As always the heat will be on the Coach--only in this case, more so. As usual most of us are saying what a nice guy and decent recruiter PM is--We said most of that about JW as well--Its now truly time for us to have a REAL winner on the court--I would like it to be Moser--BUT, a new AD will have him under the gun so to speak---
Fr G has made his moves--One more to go--Get LUC a power AD --We all know what kind of person that should be---Her is hoping for a great choice--I trust Porter will deliver on Courside--BUT ---A true example of--The Sword of Damocles !!

As an aside. I wager thet important money has been allocated to get the job done.

Also BTW,,GOOD on Sub for chiming in here when I would be absolutely devastated---LUC would be truly low on MY thought list if situation were reversed and LUC waas in Shockers' position. CLASSY

Much of what has said about the new AD has been on target. We need a dynamic promoter, one who knows Loyola and Chicago. Decades of administrative disinterest in Athletics has taken it's toll. The apathy amoung students, fans, alumni, and media is BAD. To hire someone from out of town who is " confident " only to get ground down by the job may not work. We don't want to be in this same situation 3 years from now.

Mike and I differ a tad--I AM looking as does Mike for the best for LUC----That means NATIONAL to me--True it would be nice if the AD "knew" Chgo etc--BUT good Hoops is played well elsewhere--Not everyone that plays for Kentucky hails from that state--Not everone who plays for UCLA resides in LA--and so forth--Now then if our new AD has Chgo roots and knowledge of the area --fine--but he had better know the who what when and where elsewhere as well---Prod as we are of most things Chgo, I have learned there is greatness elsewhere as well---Here is hoping we do get a Chgo type guy as well--But.....Do not exclude.

If we had a team from all over and we WON with oit, the place would be packed !! I would hope the optimum tho--an All Illinois winner truly would be perfect--BUT I just want a WINNER

Yes Brot no matter what our views this is a CRUCIAL hiring. The future of Loyola as a Div. 1 program may hinge on it. The decision needs to be made by people who know and care about Loyola not a recruiting firm.

I'm still devistated, but I know the program is in great shape and we'll just have to make more noise next year. And what can I say? I like you guys for some reason...

And if you don't mind an outsiders thoughts, I think your next AD absolutely needs to be someone that has connections to Chicago. If it's anything like here, the AD is responsible for rubbing shoulders with the big money people and general fundraising. I guess that doesn't require Chicago connections, but it helps. If no connections, they have to be a go getter type that can still reach out to the big money types in the community and make an impact. Extra money and donations go a long way in helping build something.

As far as the national thing, I get what you're saying, but the AD has no impact on basketball recruiting. That's entirely on Moser and his assistants. Obviously, you have to have Chicago connections there as there's a wealth of talent in the city. And there's nothing wrong with having guys that have connections all over. The more areas you can cover the more talent you'll discover, but it can also help to have connections closer to home. If I were your coach, I'd want coaches that could deliver in IL, IN and OH more than anything else. Lots of talent in each of those states. Outside of that, any more places are always welcome obviously. Michigan would also be good. It doesn't hurt to be able to pull people who aren't all that far from home as some kids like not being too far. I could also see you guys having some success in NYC as well. Big city kids may like another big city but still get away from home. I'm rambling now and for that I'm sorry. I love recruiting.

There were some recent posts about significant Illinois talent going out of state which really got me thinking about Chicago connections and recruiting. We lost O'Mara to Xavier and McCloud to Murray State-- it was nice to see we were significantly in the mix, at least.

During the first few rounds of the tournament I was noticing how many players they mentioned on out of state teams (because there were no Illinois schools in the tournament) who were from Chicago or the suburbs. During the Cal Poly-Wichita State game, they mentioned that Cal Poly's top player was from Walter Payton Prep in Chicago, initially attended Rice, and transferred. Wisconsin's 7-footer Frank Kaminsky played for Benet, his father played at Lewis (graduated year before Whitesell got there), and his mother played VB at Northwestern-- plus there are two other Chicago area players on Wisconsin's roster. Two starters at St. Louis were from Chicago, of course Duke's Jabari Parker, two major players for Western Michigan, Blackshear from Louisville, etc., etc., etc.

I don't know that the AD has any effect on recruiting per se, but he/she would definitely have an effect on moves that would make us a higher-profile, more viable option for Chicago area and Illinois kids to invest their athletic future at Loyola. The next AD could help with vastly improved marketing, doing what's necessary to improve scheduling (helping to put together a home MTE, for instance), and improving attendance/gameday environment/student support. Given the problems at DePaul, Northwestern, UIC, and other state schools, there's a real opportunity for Loyola to forcefully step into this breach, and the AD can lead a lot of it.

To exemplify this even more: Illinois has the second highest number of players on teams in the Sweet 16 (behind only Cali) and yet, has zero teas representing it in the tourney, let alone the Sweet 16. Gotta start keeping this talent in state!

And THAT 63 is what I meant earlier by saying we sit in the Golden Seat-- The Illinois schools are not good--The Chgo Schools are even worse. Our new AD must be able to see the opportunity and be able to act upon it--Local Guy or from somewhere else--He MUST have connections so as to help the Coach in his recruiting--I know the Prime responsibility to recruit is on the Coach-----But if our kids WIN and WIN a lot . I do not care from where they come--although it would be truly great if the palyers were from close by

Whom will it be ???? WOW !!

If you want to stay current in your political correctness, you might want to add "ze/hir" to your list of non-offensive, inclusive personal pronouns.

I say Angelitis for AD--he knows Chicago well, including the local churches. Then he should hire Brot as head coach--no oxen ball.
