For those who wondered whether we were on Malek Harris, the Chicago kid who decommitted from Marquette when Williams left, we're apparently not: http://www.chicagohoops.hoops247.com/in ... of-schools

Also, former Loyola signee Darell Combs is transferring after one season at Eastern Michigan. He was supposed to be one of the bigger names in Moser's first class, which reminds me that my scorecard was off because it didn't include him.

The new, up-to-date list of players who were at one point or another apart of the program (either on the team or signed a Letter of Intent to commit to Loyola) who are no longer with the Ramblers. It currently stands at 18, and I'm debating adding Tanner Williams to it.

The Porter Moser Transfer Scorecard

Whitesell recruits who left (8):
1. Brito
2. Stanley
3. Kadima
4. Kindred
5. Gac
6. Adams
7. Neary
8. Colin Beatty (recruited by Whitesell, signed LOI, never came)

Moser recruits who left (11):
9. C. Payne
10. Q. Payne
11. K. Williams
12. Johnson
13. Pickett
14. Hill
15. Combs
16. O'Leary
17. Osborne
18. King
19. T. Williams

This seems to be about average these days.....particularly for DI programs....and for those with new coaches. IF we take ISU losing 3 this year and NU losing 4 this year. Although I like the ideal of someone coming to LU for the academics and the experience the truth is that these guys want to play basketball and more and more of them are not willing to be the part time player if they think they can drop a level either in Division or Conference and get more playing time.
A University brings in a coach to win. They get fired if they dont. If they are honest with a player about how they see them fitting into a program and the player wants more?
The one thing that would upset me is if they run a kid off who is working academically and athletically but maybe isnt the player the coach thinks he is but wants to stay. In this situation I think it is an indication of the Coach and his ability to offer wisely.
It really is hard for us to know with out specific info what the situation is with each transfer.I would think Coach is getting close to having put together is squad and the next two years or 3 should give us the picture.

Managing personnel is a big part of the desired skill set for a coach.

Smokeyjoe makes valid points. Transfers are a part of the game now especially with a lot of kids picking schools based on basketball playing time, not academic majors. Some of those kids left due to "other reasons" that forced PM's hand. But I do think that 15 in 3 years is excessive.

Also, potentially adding insult to injury, Combs was recruited by Bradley out of JUCO and might have interest there...

Does anyone know what the story with Combes was? I agree that if the rate continues it would show some inability to bring in the right players. there are so many factors involved in trying to bring the program back that it really needs to be firing on all cylinders. I just get the feeling that even though Father G has made a commitment of intent to get the program back on track.....PM is pulling the wagon by himself.

Smoke !! I cannot say that PM is 'pulling the wagon by himself" but as I see it . Fr G has PM in his employ to build a winner--PM cannot do it by himself--he has assts to help as will the new AD and his staff. Fr G has bigger things to do--He has commissioned PM to do the building--IF PM cannot, I am confident that FR G will get someone who can and will--PM's record to date is almost a failure--It may improve this coming season--It had better, I feel.

I do think that soon we will be back where we should be--challenging WSU or whomever is the top dog--FR G and concerned Alums will stand for nothing less--The comeback starts in October/Nov 2014 !! Book it !!!

I guess my point is that he needs a full time SID, a committed Athletic Director, a knowledgeable Marketing Program, a solid weight training team, good assistants that are there for long amount of time. When you read about some of the things Coach Marshall has at WSU it has to make you wonder.
I guess my point is that the task Father G has under taken cannot be achieved by the basketball coach alone. No doubt the coach is a major part but I just kinda feel that we have yet to get all the pieces in place. It is easy for us to focus our disappointment on one guy. I just don't think it is that simple.

Smoke !! Brilliant !! I see where you are coming from--I absolutely agree with you--No doubt others on this board will as well. I have been hollering for LITERALLY years for LUC to have a REAL SID---One who can get to the media--really get to them. I am so sick of reading practically daily about the exploits of the Fighting Irish--granted some of our esteemed media went there--but CRIPES , That school is one hundred miles away in a different state,--It has gotten old and very ripe as far as I am concerned.--The Five Chgo area scools should garner most of the publicity--Put them all together and it does not add up to what So Bend gets--A real SID would eat into this for us--provided we win of course.

SO get us an AD, SID and all that goes with them--Lay down a REAL line item budget for this.

GAL !! In my experience, it is a salaried person--with a staff--Sports Information Director--He is the person who keeps--in this case-LUC's --name in front of the public. Naturally that would mean that the MEDIA is his main point of contact. Most schools rely heavily on this office.
