Scheduling for this year is gonna all depend on one thing: Whether or not we are able to get the Vegas tournament.

Word has it that we are pushing hard and are close to being invited. If we get that, that satisfies 4 games (two on campus, two in Vegas)

Additionally, the MVC has been working over the past couple of years to schedule a conference-wide "exchange" just like the Big Ten/ACC challenge. Supposedly, it's with the MWC.

If those two things happen, we have 5 games. Then we have @UIC and Tulane. @Kent State SHOULD be this year but we may pull a Creighton because of all the road games.

There are also rumors that we'll be adding an SEC school to the schedule this year but I fear it will start on the road.

I'm guess there shouldn't be TOO much that needs to be done scheduling wise (presuming that the Las Vegas Invite and the MVC/MWC thing happens).

We know that isn't true. You've been booked for months. Some times it pays to be a degenerate gambler...

I'm sure I can find some other entertainment.

If you get into a tournament like that, it only counts as 1 in the I believe 28 game limit. Which leaves 9 more to be scheduled.

As far as IUPUI, someone had it right as high risk, low reward. I know we all schedule some cupcake games, but I really think we should look for teams in the top 250 for those. The fewer teams over 200 the better. And if IUPUI is that bad, I'm not sure I'd call it an upgrade over Rockhurst. Some of those DII schools are just as competitive, if not more so, than the lower end DI schools. Plus, a Rockhurst doesn't count against your RPI/SOS like a bad IUPUI would.

You might want to look into scheduling Ball State in a few years. Their new coach should have them turned around and near the top of the MAC in short order.

This business of cramming at the last moment to fill out an ultimately disappointing (and weak) schedule has got to stop. It seems like every year we're releasing the schedule last in the league by several weeks. We're a part of a more attractive league now, and we've finished up several ongoing scheduling committments, so this year's schedule should be the best we've had in years. Talking seriously about scheduling IUPUI at this juncture is a really disappointing revelation to me.

I was looking at the University of Cincinnati's site over the weekend, and they've already announced participation in the Emerald Coast Classic with Creighton, Ole Miss, North Carolina Central, Eastern Illinois, Middle Tennessee, Southern, and Northern Arizona.

The Puerto Rico Tipoff, Paradise Jam, Hall of Fame Tip-Off, Gulf Coast Showcase, and many other MTEs are already filling up. Drake and Southern Illinois are the only other MVC teams that haven't booked an MTE yet (if you don't count Drake's yearly participation in the Iowa Big 4 Showcase).

And yet here we are again, with no MTE scheduled, already rebuffed by Creighton, talking about scheduling IUPUI, and knowing only that we're playing UIC and Tulane? I realize it's only April, but when you look at the list of schools that have already secured an MTE, it's frickin' obvious that we're already behind (again), with limited options that are closing fast.

Maybe, but NU and UCLA had 13 non-con games last year, 4 of which were at the LVI. IUPUI, Gardner-Webb, Mizzou had 14. As a reference, we had 12 non-con games. (also, I'm including non-D1 games in the numbers)

I'm guessing that it CAN count as 1 but doesn't need to.

On a potentially positive note, we don't have any (recent) active posts on Basketball Travelers,

Apparently, scheduling is time consuming...

Are your non DI games the 2 allowed for preseason that don't count towards anything or actually a part of the season? I just know the perks to the MTEs, outside of good competition, is you are able to play and extra 2 or 3 games you wouldn't otherwise get. I know we played 31 before the conference tournament and got 4 for our CBE Classic appearance in KC. 2 at home and 2 in KC. So maybe the number is 28. I don't remember exactly but I know we were maxed out as 31 is the most you can play total. It typically depends if you're in a tournament that gets you 3 or 4 games. I think our Diamondhead Classic in Hawaii only gets us three this year so we'll play 30 total. 18 of which are conference games. If you aren't in an MTE you're limited to 27 or 28 total is my understanding. I really need to figure out which one it is.

I know Wichita has I believe 3 games left to schedule. Two of which I believe will be cupcakes and the 3rd should be a H/H starting on the road. Although scheduling is always tough. Even this last season we had one opening until late summer/early fall and had to fill it with a local DII team. And that's not the first time we've had to schedule a DII team to finalize our schedule.

For the record, I think we're talking about the Las Vegas Classic over Christmas week, not the Las Vegas Invitational, which is over Thanksgiving and much stronger.

But still, Sub has it right: the four games count as one.

There's a 28 regular season game limit. 18 conference games, 1 MTE, Tulane, and UIC leaves us with 7 other games to schedule.
