I agree re-signing Shane Davis was a no-brainer, and I'm glad Malisch got it done. As for the other two, I think those decisions should have been deferred to allow the new AD to make the call.

I think the chances of Malisch being selected are probably 1 in 5, a longshot but much more likely than my other picks: Craig Robinson and Rod Blagojevich.

What does it say about a school when you're still without an Athletic Director on August 5? What's happening with this search firm that did such a great job the last time the job was open? Tells me the administration A) doesn't have a clue who to hire or how to hire anyone and B) they just don't care. People have left that department in droves since Dis-Grace was hired and subsequently, umm, left the program. Good people too. It's such a joke. Not sure if people have turned it down, or if anyone has even been offered the job at this point, but it must not be viewed as a very good gig, which is a shame. Great new basketball facility, Porter has started to get some results with the team, and a national volleyball championship as well. The school is in a great city, but let's be realistic on the pecking order, Loyola is way down toward the bottom of the attention list. Hope I'm wrong here, but I just don't see it getting any better with another 'outsider' coming in to run the department. Discuss.

Loyola isn't using a search firm this time around. They hired Parker Executive Search to conduct the last AD search, but relations soured after Parker placed Calhoun at Penn. Bad form...

Thanks for that information, I was hoping that they weren't going to use the same group that provided us with the reign of dis-Grace!

I read on the College AD site that sources reported that eight candidates were coming in on August 7 and 8. It went on to say that it was likely that 2-3 candidates would emerge in the next couple of weeks.

If this information is correct, it certainly appears the selection committee is still in no rush.

Maybe Loyola should borrow the Cubs' "College of Coaches" concept from the early 1960's and hire all eight to serve as Athletic Director on a rotating basis.
