Does it matter who's AD at this point?
It's a very cloudy picture as to what college athletics is going to evolve into over the next five years. The search and the reporting has become a university power grab. I find that hilarious because athletics is such a powder keg that someone with no background is doomed to failure but that's what we have now with Kelly running the show.
1. He gave Swoopes a new deal without a winning record in her second year
2. no fundraising language in her or Moser's contracts. (you would think a DePaul law grad would know to do that)
3. pissed away any chance of fundraising with men's volleyball after a national championship
4. took away the gentile from the athletic department
5. hired Calhoun
6. put Malisch in charge and we got the Jones fiasco
7. thinks a good fit is someone who other universities passed over for their AD job
8. allowed Doug Elgin into the university hiring process
9. Thinks Davis's success has nothing to do with his Loyola education
10. has a flawed plan on how to increase revenue
11. I could on and on but I'm just exhausted at how long the list could be and the absolute arrogance of it all.
I guess what really amazes me is that the super smart Brown grad could only increase revenue by raising ticket prices, making department employees donate, and squeezing parents to fund trips.
How is someone going to come in without anything to sell and start to make a dent into 16-17 mil a year?
I just want to see people held responsible when this crashes and burns.

JUST BE SMART AND MAKE ATHLETICS REPORT TO THE NEW CFO!!!!!!!!

Loyola grads don't ever work for DePaul grads.
plus Kelly doesn't have the marbles to envision someone like me running athletics. He just wants hear that he's right all the time.

Here's the most likely scenario:
5 years from now we don't finish above 7th in the Valley.
Loyola has flushed 80mil down the crapper
Father Garanzini stops doing two jobs and focuses on being head of Jesuit higher education.
New president comes in and says its not worth the outlay of money and thats the end of athletics
The people making the decisions now, walk away and get their pensions and leave us holding the alumni bag.

I am still amazed that a major university like Loyola with such a successful business school could not find a way to take advantage of one of the most significant events in sports history. The 50th anniversary of the National Championship should have been the basis for a major marketing (fundraising) campaign. The stores in Chicago and the internet should have been flooded with anniversary commemorative paraphernalia. Students, alumni, and Chicago citizens should be seen all over the City and the country in 50th anniversary clothing. Devoted followers should have dozens of commemorative items in their homes. Personally, I have NO items noting the anniversary other than the books that I purchased. The only items I am aware of were a tee shirt group with a couple of other things - including a DVD that most of the devoted followers already had.

There was a fair amount of publicity but there were SO MANY missed opportunities!

But, that ship has sailed. Will the Athletic Department ever have a “real” marketing person with a “realistic” budget?

How about this one
Les Hunter applied for an asst coaching job from Jerry Lyons to Larry Farmer.
Jerry didn't have the money to hire him.
Only Larry gave him an interview.
Never hired.

For the record I believe LU 86 would be a great hire and I felt so weeks ago but sadly I'm afraid it won't happen. Loyola could make an historic and bold decision by chooseing LU 86 but I'm afraid they will make an historic and fatal oversight.
