That's a good point Go and given the recent past, I'd have to think (hope) this is something Porter & Co looked into and have a comfort level with the story.

Also purely speculative, but I wonder if this is LU's first recruit helped by having the younger Mullins on staff. I have no idea but if it helped...I'm not mad about it.

I think his main recruiter was Daniyal Robinson, or at least that was according to ilprepbullseye.com. They've been on him since the Gates/Malnati/Garnder days, so they probably initiated contact. Considering he's from a northern suburb, Malnati connection?

As for the transfers, I assumed that he went from Palatine to St. Viator's because St. Viator's is probably a step up basketball-wise. St. Viator's is supposed to have a really strong senior class this year, led by PG Mark Falotico, another LU target. So the transfer out was kind of surprising, and it hurts them a lot especially because they also lost another SG Ore Arogundade who's a freshman at Drake this year. But I think Sunrise Christian, given how WSU seems to be recruiting there like crazy, is probably a step up in competition from St. Viator's. I don't know much about them other than it seems like the place where Gregg Marshall is stashing players.

This is a good get.

Just one question...what were the reasons behind his transfers? Should we be worried of a Payne situation?

Maybe he's just the kind of guy to fit with Porter's system and keep the transfer rate where it's been.

Roosevelt played his AAU ball with the Illinois Wolves. The director is Michael Mullins and his son-Bryan just happens to be on our coaching staff. I have a feeling that did not hurt.

This past summer, Viator head coach left to become an assistant at Missouri State.

Nice pick. Parents generally are the ones who pick the high school. Usually not the kid.

Here are some articles about his transfers. No real insight, though, but I don't think he made the moves because his parents decided to move.

Well. I do not know about Parents deciding where students go to school---except financial of course.---In my case I told my parents--actually asked them nicely but strongly--that I wante to go to CAMPION HS and then LUC---They agreed and the rest is History of a sort.

Could be that is what really happened in Smarty's case. At any rate I am really glad he is a Rambler !!

And there shouldn't be any academic questions. Sunrise prides itself on preparing kids for college. More so in the classroom than on the court.

He had to leave Palatine if they moved out.

I can not see a 700 mile move for senior year without the parents.
