Congrats to Loyola and Smart! I know WSU was recruiting him at least to some degree. I do not believe an offer was extended.

Sunrise Academy is a very good private school in Wichita which also happens to recruit basketball players for its varsity I team and it's postgrad team. They prepare kids very well for college, both on and off the court. The high school team plays other similar teams from around the country. The prep team plays area junior colleges (some of the best basketball in the country), NAIA, and D-II schools.

Sunrise generally graduates about 5 D-I kids and another half dozen that go to lower levels collegiate my on an annual basis.

If Smart is playing on the post grad team, it's likely WSU fans will watch him this year as Eric Hamilton was placed there by Coach Marshall.

Is it a boarding school?

They do have room and board available. Rauno Nurger (WSU freshman) was the prep team roommate of Zach Brown, whom was placed at Sunrise by WSU. That's how WSU landed him after the chief recruiter from Ole Miss went elsewhere.

Sunrise Christian Academy (Kan.) 2015 Combo Guard Roosevelt Smart couldn’t sleep early Wednesday morning. Keeping him awake was a potential, critical decision about his future. Eventually, Smart decided to make that decision, committing to Loyola (IL) Wednesday morning.

“I just felt like it was right,” Smart told NY2LA Sports. “I was up till almost 2:00 a.m. thinking about what I should do. I just decided I wanted to commit. They’ve been so loyal to me and I really like it there. It’s a good program that can achieve great things.”

Smart chose Loyola over other offers from Creighton, La Salle, and Wright State. He was also fielding late interest from Wichita State, Butler, and New Mexico State among others. After visiting the Ramblers officially last weekend, Smart had a pretty good idea he’d be playing close to home next season.

“It felt like family,” he said. “It felt like home. Anytime you find a group of guys like that and you’re not even on the team, it’s something special. I feel like I bonded with every single guy on the team.” Even though Smart had a chance to earn more offers in the fall/winter, he opted to reward Loyola’s persistence from the beginning. “They’ve been loyal to me for a long time,” he said. “When I took my visit there, I hung out with the team and I felt like I was a part of it. I really like the coaching staff and I feel like I can help them out right away.”

Smart, a 6-foot-2, combo guard, will continue to play on and off the ball for Loyola in 2015-2016. Grabbing one of the more underrated players in the state of Illinois, the Ramblers know they’re getting a good one. “They couldn’t stop smiling,” Smart said. “I could tell they were excited, there was so much joy...they were at a loss for words really." He added, “They see me playing the point or shooting guard, mainly shooting guard. They see me scoring a lot and feeding open people when I’m driving and penetrating.”

Smart played for the Illinois Wolves during the travel season.

I watched some video of Smart, and he has a sweet jumper and is very fluid.

I'm not complaining, but I wonder where he's going to fit in; Loyola has a surplus of shooting guards in Doyle, Richardson, Ingram and Turk. Moser might try to turn him into a point guard.

It would be nice if he gets a reaffirmation from Harris Brown, though that's unlikely.
