It's a good thing I'm sitting next to Swella tonight. It's keeping him from swearing like a sailor...

Well, it was a fun few days with a glimmer of hope. But...back to reality.

That was really disappointing. Idk why porter refuses to play any one outside of his top 8. When things are not working at least try something else.

Where was the vaunted defense I have been bragging about ???? Out boarded by a ton--Mediocre freebie shooting BUT mostly letting the Greenies drive and drive.

We are going to tighten up I am sure. Height s one thing BUT we DO NOT BOX OUT--That is critical.

OK , we will learn I trust from this. Our bench looked pretty good this night--Turk, not so hot .

We were truly flat tonight--Not like at Kent

Well that was a complete debacle.

Drove up to see the game, 280 miles round trip. Got caught in a 40 minute traffic jam on the Stevenson from a multi-car crash at Central, then after the game got stuck on Lake Shore Drive for 20 minutes from an accident where the back of a taxi was nearly ripped clean off. And then there was the game, also an ugly wreck and a waste of time...

It's been a long time since I've seen a home game where we were totally outclassed by a team we had no business losing to. All of the energy, help defense, smart play, and determination we showed for most of the game at Kent State was gone. It sometimes felt like the team was sleepwalking through the game. And when we figured out a tactic that worked against their tight zone perimeter, we hardly ever went back to it.

One of the few bright spots was Donte Ingram. Nice game for him. Rajala got two baskets in the last two minutes, and provided a sorely missing element-- he's got a long body, and if he could get toughened up a bit he might be able to help a little. Doyle looked like he had the flu or something, got into foul trouble, and then made a couple silly errors trying to do too much near the end.

Really disappointing crowd. I mean really. I expected about 500 more for the biggest name home non-con game. The student section was mostly bewildered. Even the large Tulane contingent (about 200) was the quietest group of opposing fans watching us get destroyed that I've ever seen. Golf claps here and there. Maybe they didn't believe what they were seeing.

And apparently, this was the new AD's first glimpse of what we've got rockin' with men's basketball. He was seen in the stands getting a tour from others in administration and trying his best to maintain a smile. He's probably wondering if St. Bonnies will take him back, and quite willing to forfeit any seniority and maybe take a pay cut if only he could go back where he came from and didn't have to see a mess like tonight ever again.

Wow. Ususally after games like this I get a little angry. But I'm too exhausted, and it was almost pathetic at how the great work in the last two games to set us up for a nice win streak was all pissed away.

But John , How do you really feel about that game ????

About the ONLY things I got correct was LUC's score and the magnificent NON - COVERAGE by the SUN-TIMES INTERNET VERSION.

Not to worry--our guys will be back on track--one reason, the rooks showed some offense.

GET SOME REBOUNDS !! Plus, maybe Porter was out-coached this time ??

PS ! Give Rajala a few more minutes --He could help a tad, underneath, maybe !!

I say again--A learning experience !

was on campus yesterday for a variety of reasons. First thought, the new AD has his work cut out for him. It just seems that through the various AD switches the whole Athletic Department needs reorganization or restructuring or something. I also think going without an AD for so long has left a lot of stuff up in the air. I have a variety of reasons to say this that I will not get into but just the crowd last night should say it all. And you cant ask the coach to coach and do marketing and game day experience. On the positive side the new Irelands bar in the student center was a nice spot and an option to Brunos. So one before and one after is my solution.
First time to see the team this year and really think that their lack of height is gonna be a problem.Tulane had a ton of points in the paint. It is also a problem on offense. PM went to what appeared to be a high 1-4 offense which kind of attempts to get the opponents big out of the paint...had some success. Defensively the help man to man takes so much energy and leads to a lot of fouls. Doyle and Thomas were in foul trouble early. I think if we are going to have success this year we are going to have to go away from what PM loves to do both offensively and defensively. I think we have to trap, press and play zone. When we did this last night we kind of made a run. I think this creates some easier looks on offense and may keep us out of foul trouble. It may also give us an identity. I would love to see us go with something like Virginia Commonwealth does, trapping full court stuff. We need an identity that helps us stand out, doesnt require recruiting a center, is fun to watch etc Gets the fanbase and students excited..I just think PM is stubborn and not creative. Nice group of athletes but could be a long year.
