Always nice to beat one of your rivals. But there are a lot of areas we could have played much better (turnovers and, of course, rebounding).

3-1 on the road after last year's debacle is very satisfying though.

Agreed. A win always feels good, but it's even better when it is against an in-state rival...even if they're not a good team.

We have a lot of work to do, but this season is looking like it will be an improvement from last year.

Go Ramblers!

Well, I see by the stats that we shot over 50 % from the field and almost EIGHTY PERCENT from the line. This does cover our lack of boarding--But it surely must be hard to do game in and game out !!

If we keep this up, we will be just fine 'til we get BIGS next year !!

So far , this is a much improved team over last year's wreck.

You both summed it up well. I always love seeing us beat UIC. Though we need to limit turnovers in the future.

Good call, Brot! Saw some of the replays of the Wisconsin vs Marquette game. Looked ugly!

You're Also right about Michigan. They were upset at home by a 3-5 NJIT team. In another interesting upset, our old horizon league foe Green Bay defeated #15 ranked Miami in Coral Gables! That's a very nice win for Green Bay and the Horizon League!

my two stories from today's game:

http://thecatchandshoot.com/milton-doyl ... alry-game/

http://thecatchandshoot.com/loyola-wins ... es-behind/

Really enjoyed seeing this team in person for the first time this year. Definitely improved, time will tell how much. From what I've watched of Drake and Bradley, I'd say Loyola is at worst the 8th best team in the conference this year.

Thanks for those two stories, Jesse. That's some good work. I particularly like the Moser quote about Doyle: “One thing with Milt is that he’s trusting everybody a little bit more,” Moser said. “He’s creating other stuff for other guys so much more. He’s letting the game come to him."

You can really see that this year, and the UIC game was a perfect example. I thought he was trying to do too much himself on a few plays late in the Tulane game, so it was good to see him play with confidence in his teammates again at UIC. And unlike last season, the other guys are mostly keeping up with the speed of his decisions-- much fewer flubbed pass catches, and quicker responses once they're caught. He's also cut down on a lot of the more "ambitious" passes he made last season.

The numbers you cited in the article are pretty amazing... he's actually leading the MVC in assists now with 4.9 per game, ahead of Fred Van Vleet's 4.5. He's also first in three point percentage, fifth in points, fifth in steals, ninth in blocks, ninth in field goal percentage, and tenth in assist/turnover ratio. And he's a sophomore with a banged-up shoulder.

Doyle is having an unbelievable start to the year. I wish more Chicago basketball fans knew it.

He's shooting 64% from three and 56% from the field overall. (Up from 32% and 43% last year.) And he's getting to the free throw line 7 times per game.

As for the game itself, it was pretty ugly. I think the last 10 minutes of the game took over 45 minutes to play. Tons of fouls called. Some pretty questionable.

We had a pretty nice - but quiet of course - group of Loyola fans there. Filled up a section behind our bench.

Still, great to get another road win, and great to protect another halftime lead.

I'm also very excited about the 3 road wins this season.. and would like to think that we can get a couple more once we're in conference play....

What I was dissapointed about at the UIC game was the conversation that I had with the chearleaders that were sitting behind us at the game. Turns out that Loyola did not offer any type of transportation or tickets to Loyola students. We couldn't even get our cheerleaders on the court. I have no facts to back this next statement, but I like to think that if we were hosting any other Chicago school, that they would have brought several busses of students!!! This is not cool.... It's fun little road trips like that in which make for long lasting memories for our undergrads and may keep them coming back for years and years to come.
