The folks in charge of the prices don't care what we think. They are resigned to the fact that we only pull 1500 fans to a game or so and they want to maximize the pull from that small group.

What they don't realize is that people are going to stop paying soon. Folks that had season tickets 5 years ago got free parking and drinks at Zip's included in the price. Now, you have to pay MORE for tickets and you get NOTHING else.

We're the fools that keep feeding the beast. The beast is only going to find an increased appetite and we're to blame.

Maybe so, but season tickets really aren't the problem. I get that people felt nickel and dimed (or outright insulted, which is inexcusable) by the previous AD, but a lower bowl season ticket averages out to, what, $20 a game including the donation?

What gets me is that somebody looks to buy tickets for a game or two a year and can't get in the door for less than $25.

By the way, there was a nice postgame reception in Ireland's after the Evansville game. There are at least some people who care.

I am greatly exaggerating, but the underlying problem is there. Tickets (regardless of how they are procured) are too expensive. And the people in charge don't care.

By comparison, my ticket at SIU Arena last week, 7th row, was $22.

When the Cubs are bad, you could scalp tickets at 5-10 bucks a pop. This program is nowhere near a major league anysport level. I think we could put a great (perennial NCAA tournament contender) product on the court and start to charge the $20 GA prices, but the contender has to come first, then the price hike.

And back to the original purpose of the thread, I'm sure there is a senior citizen discount, although you probably have to go to the window to get it. I don't know why it's not online, but I think I remember seeing it on signs at the ticket office in Norville. If not, you could always sue the University for age discrimination and win and end up getting Tom Kelly fired. :D

It really is too bad. It's an expensive day to go to the game - I've got a client who is a Redbird alum, and he was really hoping we'd beat Evansville so he could get 4 tickets for the price of 2.

The season tickets used to be a wonderful deal. I paid extra to be on the floor with a couple buddies. Maybe they'll never get back down to those prices but maybe something in between. Or a half season ticket package, something along those lines.

Relax, they are going to announce a new ticket policy. You can sit wherever you want. The problem is there are only two tickets so the price is $500,000 each. But you will have the place to yourself.

But for $20 you already have the place to yourself.

One thing my wife noticed at the Drake game - there was a large contingent of students there but the rest of the arena was very sparse. Unfortunately the students were funneled up into the corner near the Drake bench. Hopefully they can do a better job, especially on nights with small crowds, of making sure the students have closer seats with good sight lines.

Two things.......ticket prices I think at this point are pretty irrelevant. People that have an interest go, the % of people that do not go because of price is probably small. However I agree if someone who has not been attending games decided for some reason that they wanted to see a game they could very easily be shocked by the price. The small crowds is that there is not tradition of going to games for a long time. The commuter crowd has probably never been involved and students have been ignored and have had such a poor product for so long they are not going to leave the house and family on a cold winters night to watch the Ramblers when they never went before.
Having painted this Tolstoyian view I dont think we are that far off from filling the gym most nights. You have the diehards and random attenders at 1000. When Valley teams are in town target their Chicago ALums. 300. Work the students 300. I gotta admit I have no idea what grabs students these days but do it ( live bands after games in the Student Center. Target the x-athletes they probably have a little more connection than the average alum and enjoy sports.....give them a break as well and honor a sport team each game bring say current track and alumni track guys together one game a year. 300. Okay we are at around 2000. I dont want to have to reach for the Boy Scouts (george Ireland loved those Scouts) yet. Specialize what ever groups exist to ave their yearly or monthly meetings non game nights and include social activity and game.....Past Drama ALums.....Latino CLub Class of 2002. what ever it might be. Early in the year near early Decembers do a big ALum package deal with a come back to campus and spend the weekend in Chicago kind of deal (work out a deal with a hotel package) its Christmas in Chicago etc. 300.
Reach out to sports fans, I know the area is saturated but have you seen prices for BUlls, Hawks etc. You would think our Business School would be able to targe these people. another 300. Bring in better teams to play 300. GIve the people with Season tickets lots of free tickets to bring friends and introduc e them to LU bball 100/ Target the neighborhood and neighborhood businesses 100. Target Booster Clubs of current players..or any booster clubs...Give them tickets for $5 bucks and let them resell for whatever as a fundraiser . OK I have got it up to around 3000 someone else take it from here.

Two. We have got to attract attention. Tonight we are playing the #12 team in the nation and unless I missed it not one frigging line on the game tonight.I take that back. It is mentioned on the Tv/Radio section as being on ESPN 3 while on COmcast sports they are doing the Drake-Bradley Game. Why hasnt there been an article on MIlton Doyle and how is transfer from KU is going. For gods sake we have an LU alum on the #1 sports talk show in the City and not once do I hear anything about LU......as Tibs would say " Cmon DO YOUR JOB"
too much coffee. Ramlbers win tonight.....you heard it here first.
