If we can score 60 points, I think we win. MSU has only scored 60 points or more in one of their last 11 games, against Drake, before Marshall left the team. Four of the last five opponents have scored 60 or more against them, and every team that did it won. I'd like to see a few more traps, earlier than we usually use them. Spread their defense, hit some outside shots, get points on the board early and often, and keep playing D.

Yes, but we've scored more than 60 precisely once in the last 7 games. We also lost that game

Damn. I'd guess Knuth, but maybe Ingram? Maybe some minutes for the Finn tonight?

Listen, I'm with you. I want us to speed it up. I think that the speed plays to our advantage. Unfortunately, I think Porter gets in the way of that. I'm not sure he really knows how to speed up a game without getting out of control. He LIKES slowing it down and grinding it out.

It's one of the more frustrating things for me. We have some very talented players that would excel in an up tempo game, but we rarely get to use that.

edit: Ooops. JCT killed his post.

I was accidently posting as administrator after approving Ramblerguy's membership. But what I said was our offense, I think, is stronger than MSU's, especially without Marshall, and if we speed it up a bit, shoot earlier in the clock, and try to use defense to spark offense (with traps, pressure, etc.) we have an advantage in this game. Let's see if that's part of the strategy, because I think it would work against these guys.

It's a slow tempo league. Seven of the ten teams in the Valley rank 288th or slower in terms of possessions per game. I don't think we intentionally slow it down quite as much as others think. Opportunities for fast breaks and good shots are fairly slim, especially without Doyle's ability to penetrate.

True, but look at the way we play. Dribble at the top of the key for 10 seconds. Start some short, brief perimeter passing, hope that something opens up, take the shot clock down to 5, shoot.

That was pretty much every play on Saturday. I know Doyle out hurts, but someone needs to step up and dribble drive to the lane. Make the defense collapse. Open the floor for Turk. DO SOMETHING. I'm getting really tired of seeing the same awful play possession after possession.

I agree. The offense has been mired with few exceptions. It's a shame Keke is having such a weird year.

I mean, why is Porter not drawing up plays for Turk, Earl or Keke to drive in? Sure, the wait for something to develop and get it in to Montel worked for most of the ISUred game, but they started to expect it. Mix it up a bit.

After we played Drake, they started picking up their pace and got more aggressive on offense. Since then, they've scored 63.8 points per game and won 3 out of 5. If you take out their game at Wichita State, they've averaged 69.8. I think it depends on who we're playing-- sometimes slowing it down and being overly deliberate just gives the other team more time to make a steal, force a desperate shot with the clock winding down, or gets your team into an unconfident mindset.

I think the reason we are not as uptempo as it seems our team could be is that we have to send all 5 guys to the boards to rebound due to our lack of big guy. ,I hate the offense but part of that strategy is to make the other team work on defense and hopefully get in foul trouble especially since we have a deep bench this year. However the offense just does not seem to produce good shots when needed.
