O'Leary, Osborne & Co took Marquette to overtime, but lost their poise in the last two minutes. Combs carried them the last 10 min of regulation. O'Leary twisted his ankle and wasn't in at the end and Osborn was not responsible for the meltdown. Nonetheless, it looked a lot like Loyola game from that earlier era. Both O's had some good moments and a few head scratchers.

My theory, and it is just that, Scream , is that as good hoopsters that they are, they STILL do not get the thing PM and other good Coaches teach--SELFLESSNESS !!

Out team, last year had this trait in abundance--The O'Leary =Osborne bunch did not and do not.

I believe our team this year is or could be on the way to greatness IF the newbies buy in.

Its not IUPUI, its who they are playing. They are getting some quality opponents.
For my part, I do not miss any of the bunch.
I watched Osborne against Purdue and he looked as lost as ever. Picked up his fourth foul three minutes into the second half after sitting out the last ten of the first half. O'Leary forced to play out of position. He is really a three point shooter and not an inside guy,
I don't know much about Pickett or Combs but would we have gotten Richarson, or Knuth or Smith for that matter? I doubt it.

Incidentally saw the Xavier/Cincy game on tv this afternoon and I enjoyed watching the superstar Sean O'Meara get splinters. When he did play his three minutes in the second half, he looked clumsy and clueless and then the last 52 seconds he was invisible as all the bench players are.
Here is Mr Superstar who let his big, fat ego get in the way and turned down a chance to play and get some experience in the Valley, for his chance to "play" at Xavier in Cincy. I hope he is enjoying his time on the bench and can think about how he blew his college career.

Streak why do you hate this kid? We missed out on him as a recruit so what it happens let it go. He could have chose the school not because of this ego you give him but maybe he felt like he fit in best there. We shouldn't be talking bad about a college kid just because he decided to play somewhere else.

Its not personal. But if you look back the guy on Wichita Van Vleet and Osborne were both mentioned as potential college superstars. Of course at 18 who really knows.
I think he had a lot of potential and then just got lazy. That is my perspective. Also there is a lot more to the story of him and the others leaving. But, yeah it is water under the bridge because I have said my piece.

I have followed Benet for years and Loyola for several as Coach Moser is a proud alum. Why would anyone want to rip into Sean O'Mara? The suggestion was ego, however everything I have seen and read suggests a pretty humble and team oriented kid. Lot's of folks questioned why he played football through all 4 years of high school rather than focusing on basketball as well as not risking injury. Believe his response was could not image leaving his teammates and loving playing. Watched a few basketball games and was a very willing passer to teammates.

Happened to watch the Xavier vs. Cincinnati game, since you only mentioned the second half, perhaps you missed the first half when Sean played 6 minutes including the final 4 when he was only post on the floor due to foul trouble and group stretched lead from 10 to 16 points. He had nice post move for bucket and shut out their center Ellis.

After reading your post did some more checking, last season while playing sparingly behind 5th year senior Big East 2nd team center Stainbrook, experienced championship run at Madison Square Garden before falling to Villanova were he scored 4 points, as well as #6 seed in NCAA tournament and Sweet 16 run. Sean also made Big East all academic team his freshman year.

This year so far his minutes per game are up significantly while playing behind two kids that may end up getting drafted, a senior and red shirt junior. Finally, Xavier is currently rated #10 in the country and have the #1 RPI.

Sean would have been a terrific Rambler, however, sounds like quite an experience so far!

One last comment. I apologize if it seems I am ripping into O'Meara. I am sure you are right and that he is a great citizen, person etc.
My point was really more general. It seems a lot of young men over rate their abilities and pass up a chance to play regularly in a very solid program because they have illusions about being a star in another program. And then what happens, they get minimal playing time or at least a lot less than they had anticipated when they could have had a lot more playing time in a very similar program. And Chicago is not a secondary market.
But hey we all make choices. I think O'Meara and many others would be better served by looking for opportunity.
I wish O'Meara well in the balance of his career.
