seriously... I watched the game on ESPN 3....... ecstatic with the Rambler win I flipped on CSN (CHICAGO Sports Network) hopping to catch a couple seconds of reporting on the Ramblers maybe a clip or two. What did I get???? 30 seconds of SIU and St. Louis......honest to god not even the score of the Rambler game was mentioned! this was an hour and a half after the game. THen this AM grabbed the Herald and not even a score of the game in the sports page. I am beginning to think the whole team works for the CIA and we are trying to keep the under wraps.

Sickening !! LUC is a MAJOR Chicago Univ., but one would NEVER know it. Our lackluster pre Conference record di this--along with Chicago Media normal prejudice against us.
Now then, we must WIN win and win some more.

We need to talk to sports producers around the area (broadcast TV, cable, news radio, sports radio, etc.) and find out exactly what kind of content they need, in the format they need, and when they need it. Then we must to provide that content and maintain relationships on a regular basis. If you deliver usable, plug-in CONTENT to broadcasters on their lap, with on-time delivery, they will put it on the air. With print media, somebody needs to contact their sports desks and go IN DEPTH to find out what information and links they need to include scores and summaries (at least).

Maybe in this pathetic college sports local news and media environment, Loyola needs to go above and beyond with leadership and organization. If I were in the department, I'd get together with the sports info people from Northwestern, DePaul, UIC, and Chicago State. Maybe invite Northern, Valpo, and Notre Dame, too. Have a summit of all the local sports info people someplace central, like at the Water Tower campus, with lunch, refreshments, etc. Share ideas and set goals on how all the college sports folks can elevate coverage of all schools, especially in college basketball. The message should be that it is helpful to ALL if local coverage of college sports is improved. Right now, it's terrible.... You either have to pay for coverage by buying blocks on media outlets, provide free content, do something extraordinary, or they ignore you.

Nice idea but why would ND DePewl and NW participate ?? They enjoy fine media coverage as it is. A little less Notre Dame and more LUC, VALPO and UIC would do nicely. Win or lose these are Chgo institutions and should be covered as such. If it can be done in Cleveland/Akron. it can be done in Chicago. As I have stated before, We in Cle/ Akr have everythingChicago has except Hockey. Eg LeBron gets his pub, but so do ZIPS

Brot, the Chicago area still does receive very much coverage for college sports, even with ND in the ACC and NU in the Big *Number*. My point is, a rising tide lifts all boats. If you begrudge one school for getting more attention this year, that's how a coalition falls apart.

We spend a lot of time focusing on players and coaches and rightfully so..however there are many components involved to get the best players and coaches and publicity is certainly a large part as well as game day atmosphere. We have made some strides but to continue all the cogs of a big time athletic department need to be contributing and it does not seem to me that they are.

What the athletic department needs is a new university president who has an understanding of DI sports and knows the type of people it takes to run it with all cylinders firing. Tom Kelly is an absolute joke to be in charge of athletics with ZERO experience running any type of athletic program. He's also in charge of keeping campus safe to boot (the Loyola police department reports to him) but that's a whole other story. The university needs to recognize that throwing money at the problem isn't going to solve its issues. There is no denying there has been some improvements but does anyone at Loyola even know where athletics should be with the money being spent? How about a simple cost analysis or better yet what we are paying for wins in each sport.
No accountability plus an administrator like Kelly in charge sounds like a sure fire way to be successful.

Regarding the newspaper coverage. Who cares?
I don't buy a newspaper anymore because it is well, yesterday's news. You can get a better story of the game on the LU website.
Besides, why blame the newspapers. Loyola had twenty plus years of mediocrity and it shows in the stands. The newspaper coverage or lack there of is not suppressing attendance. The GENTILE gym is not the place to be.
We have earned our lack of attendance.
When we play better and have better opponents we will fill the place.
The athletic department is working on the problem but I don't think one season is enough time to produce an instant turnaround.
I know Brian Day works hard and is more fan friendly with the ticket office than his predecessors.
Look at volleyball. You win, attendance picks up.
With 1700 people in the stands, the media rightfully feels it is not worth their time and effort.
And sorry Brot, Akron/Cleveland, Seriously, not even comparable to Chicago in terms of things to do.
I know downtown Cleveland is being revived somewhat, but there is no way to compare a weekend or even weeknight in Cleveland to Chicago.

25 everyone is not you....people do read the paper....people do watch the sports results......I was trying to interest a local athlete in LU and his father responded " are they DI school?" and we are in the Chicago suburban area. Our local athletic director did not know we were in the Missouri Valley.......Ignorance about LU is rampant. And we did have a successful season last year. We were arguably the best major program in the Chicago Area . Our coaches and athletes in various sports are making the climb upward out of the Dark Ages and the publicity portion which is a key to continuing to climb does not seem to be matching the effort. When a sports station dedicated to Chicago sports shows clips of SIU vs St. Louis and does not even mention an LU victory against an in-state rival who has had a good year there is an issue. People who follow LU on the web are people who are already invested in LU athletics. Over the last 3 years I would say we have created a baseline of loyal old school LU fans. Now we have to either get people re interested or create new interest.
We have improved.......the whole athletic department, All- Americans in track.....competitive in the Valley in all sports......TREMENDOUS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT....

PROBLEM IS nobody knows about it.........and this goes hand in hand with performance in taking the next step....Our publicity/media etc needs to match the improvement shown by the athletes and their coaches

WOW !! How provincial of 25 !! I merely stated AKR/CLE because I live here. The Media here knows they exist for the citizens --NOT the other way around. AND while we are at it, two reasons we did not move back home when I retired were NO Traffic problems and LOW taxes . BTW the AKR/CLE Media is NOT the only group the DOES ITS PRIMARY DUTY--Check ST Louis, Nashville Pittsburgh, Twin Cities and others. They all cover it all--Plus all have world class environments as does Chicago--Only the Chgo Media plays favorites.
BTW Chicago will always be my HOMETOWN and I am proud to say that . But I suggest you not put Cle/Akron down . Environment ? World class Symphony , World Class Art Museum--World Class University (Case Western), R & R HOF and on and on.
BUT I digress--For LUC to succeed , it must continue to WIN WIN WIN --Then the Fans will show up--at least the non-students--I believe the present bunch of students is HOPELESS.
LUC has a huge mountain to climb Press coverage-wise as Media has a monstrous love affair with ND and DePaul and Big Whatever--That's OK, but NOT to ignoring that Jesuit U up north--AND That is what it does. I accuse the Chgo media of being derelict in its Civic duty.

We ARE on our way up--BUT we must keep winning. PM has this bunch doing the best it can--PLUS it will get better. I do believe the University wants us back to where we were--If PM gets us there , fine, if not well we should get someone else. We have a fine AD --The Admin needs to fill a few more pieces and maybe re-arrange things at the top--As far as our team goes, we have it all except HEIGHT (athletic height) --Is this a PM defficiency (sp)in recruiting ?? If so, get a "height recruiter" BTW SUB says PM is not a good bench coach--except for the CLE ST game . , I disagree.
