UConn fans are to the AAC as WSU are to the MVC as far as it goes online.
In reality its probably only the most obnoxious fans but they're sadly the loudest. Displeased with everything, and dump on fans of any other program anytime they try and act positively about their program or the state of affairs, and wildly defensive of anything negative regarding their program... It's just toxic and exhausting.
In defense of UConn fans, they have way more to back it up than WSU. There are no National Championship banners hanging in Koch Arena. UConn has 4 from the past 20 years from just the men's team. Despite last week's game, you can still make the argument that the UConn women are the most dominant sports team on the planet. Hell, even their football team went to the Fiesta Bowl in the past decade.
They also used to play in a conference with great athletic schools (Louisville, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pitt) and great academic and athletic schools (Villanova, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Miami, Providence, Marquette, Syracuse, BC, St. John's). They now play in a conference with lower tier state schools academic-wise (the Floridas, East Carolina, Houston, Tulsa, Memphis, Cincinnati, and now Wichita) compared to the other schools in those states (UF, UNC, Texas, Ohio St., etc.) that have non-existent presences in UConn's main student base of NYC & Boston. UConn is also one of the harder public schools to get into for out-of-state students - admission rate around 50%, average GPA around a 3.7. That was probably helped in no small measure by being in a conference like the old Big East. There's
no way WSU's academics (or any of the AAC except for Tulane and maybe SMU) compare to that. Combine the fact that those schools have had a mere fraction of the recent athletic success they've had, I'd be pretty pissed too if I were a Husky fan.
WSU might have a better basketball team next year than UConn, but make no mistake, they are still a ways away from UConn's level.
