This is the worst shooting performance I can remember in a long, long time. Some of that is the result of their defense, but most of it seems just the result of missed open shots. The good news is, that's correctable and (hopefully) not likely to be repeated.

Well, that was a bad game for the good guys. I still think we are better this year than we were last year, though lack of depth and height are still going to hurt us. Looking forward to the next game!

Go Ramblers!

We are clearly waiting for somebody to step up and play in the paint with Montel.

Obviously disappointing, but it was one of those nights...nothing was going to work. About the time in the 2nd half where we needed UNM to hit a dry spell, we went 5 or 6 mins without a bucket.

Hopefully this will get the guys chomping at the bit for Saturday.

Comparing this year with last year does NOT mean too much BUT, TULANE beat us early and then we played Kent and ran off and hid !! The Kent game turned it around for us--Maybe Toledo game will be the same !! I hope so.

Again GET SOME BIGS !!

Doyle had three points on 1 for 9 from the field. Yes, he had 6 assists, but you're not going to win many games against a team like New Mexico on the road with your best player doing single figure scoring. Not only was the shooting terrible, it was terrible when the shots were wide open, and the misses weren't even really close.

On the other side of the court, their three big guys (Williams, Aget and Logwood) shot 19 for 24, scored 42 points, and had 19 rebounds. This is the worst defensive performance I can remember since the Michigan State game last year, and the worst we've played against big men since the Tulane game. Rajala can give us some minutes against lesser teams and big subs, but he's not ready to go against guys with the kind of footwork that Williams has.

It's not a disgrace to lose to New Mexico at The Pit, but the margin was a little shocking. I had hoped it would be competitive for more than just the first three minutes. This was one of the three games we have to win in order to make a claim for NCAA or NIT play, and it wasn't even a contest. Hopefully, we were getting the missed threes out of the way for a shocking upset at Notre Dame, or a solid win over Creighton. But if we play like this again, we're going to have trouble beating UIC and Western Illinois.

Judging by their first 3 games, Western Illinois is going to be a tough game even if we play well.

Three things I am concerned about to varying degrees: The shooting was awful, but that should take care of itself. This is a good shooting team. The interior defense, as 86 pointed out, could not afford the outside pressure applied early in the game. But that aside, the movement and the help inside that was a hallmark last year (even with Christian on the bench) wasn't there tonight. You wouldn't expect there to be confusion about the defensive plan, but that's what it looked like. It should be correctable over the short term if the newer players in the rotation can execute. Last, and hardest to fix, is the offense down low except for what Montel can do on his own. At this point, I think Adjei has the best shot at making a contribution. Rajala and Kirby aren't showing much right now. To me, Ingram's talents are wasted down low when we're facing the kind of bodies UNM had in there.

JCT nails it. It's not a bad loss, but it sure was ugly. Hoping it is a learning experience, especially for our bigs.

The Albuquerque Journal said that Tim Williams was really pumped upped.......wanted to let everyone in Chicago know who was on top/ He and Milton were good friends in high school. Originally committed together to Florida International together. The article said the Rambler defensive plan on forcing the ball out of the hands of the two guards (Neal and Brown) backfired as they handled the pressure got the ball to the bigs with plenty of space." consistently finding openings to find the to get easy baskets inside"
