Despite a loss yesterday, we held tough. We were trailing by only 7 at halftime to a perennially nationally-ranked program. We also had 900 fans at the game, which is a good amount for a women's bball game with no one on campus.
I think women's bball, moreso than men's, greatly lacks parity. I think the gap between teams in the top 25 and mid majors is way wider in the women's game, which could explain the blowout losses. Law's absence also hurts us; hopefully its not a prolonged or permanent one.
I've been saying this about the men's program, so I think I'd sound like a hypocrite if I didn't say it as well for the women: I believe a tougher non-con schedule will help us be better prepared for conference play. Women's bball will hopefully prove my theory with a strong conference slate.

Re: Women's Hoops-- Headed Off the Rails?
First we get 900 at a women's hoops game, and now a 2-page thread?
Superfan is right about the gap between top programs and midmajors. Green Bay's women's program in the HL was one of the few at the midmajor level that routinely got into the lower end of the Top 25. In the last Top 25 poll out, there wasn't a single mid-major in the rankings and only Green Bay, Princeton, James Madison, and Western Kentucky even got any votes.
We'll see if we learn anything from these blowouts or if we're just demoralized when conference season starts. Last night Illinois State hosted Arizona State at home and got smoked 89-44.

That's not bad turnout. You're definitely right about the haves and have-nots.
Re: Women's Hoops-- Headed Off the Rails?
Ok, but you have to be worried about losing by 35 at UIC, right?
Re: Women's Hoops-- Headed Off the Rails?
It was tied at 13 before UIC went on a 22-1 run. They're actually a pretty good team, but we can't be losing games like this...

I just took a quick look at the stats sheet...no Simone Law or Taylor Johnson. Maybe the injuries are really taking a toll; however, I do have to wonder about Swoopes' coaching abilities.JCT wrote:It was tied at 13 before UIC went on a 22-1 run. Never fear Kelly will reward her with a raise and another contract extension.

That's only if she brings him his daily dose of cheeseburgers. Small price to pay for job security.LU 86 wrote:Never fear Kelly will reward her with a raise and another contract extension.
