She won election to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player, joining Allen Iverson, Yao Ming, Shaquille O'Neal, Tom Izzo, and Jerry Reinsdorf as inductees in the Class of 2016. She joins Loyola coach Lenny Sachs (inducted postumously in 1961) as the second Loyola inductee.

Incidentally, Yao Ming made his first US workouts for NBA scouts at Alumni Gym. Tom Izzo coached a game at Gentile which still holds the on-campus arena attendance record. And Jerry Reinsdorf has delivered a speech for the Business school and personally scouted players at games in Gentile....
