You know, with 15 teams in the A-10 playing an unbalanced schedule, it’s impossible to predict the outcome of the A-10 standings. Anyone who would even try is foolish.
So here, Ladies and Gentlemen, is Ramblermania’s very precise prognostication of the A-10 men’s basketball standings:
1. VCU
There’s lots of returning experience and firepower from a team that went deep in the NIT with a coach learning the league last season.
2. Dayton
They lost an NBA draft pick, but got back most of their best players and injured key pieces.
3. Saint Louis
Will have the toughest schedule in league play so it might be too high, but great talent still growing. Coach is new, but his forte is adapting on the fly.
4. St. Joseph’s
Losing Greer is offset by the super talent of Xzayvier Brown, Rasheer Fleming, and Erik Reynolds.
5. Loyola Chicago
This year’s Ramblers are long, tall, deep at every position and athletic.
6. George Mason
Tony Skinn had a remarkable first year as head coach hired on short notice, and he’s brought in some more talent this season.
7. Richmond
Lost some key players from a surprise regular season co-champ last year, but dynamic Delonnie Hunt, big Mike Walz, and Chris Mooney’s coaching is enough to keep them in the mix.
8. St. Bonaventure
This year’s Bonnies are an unknown grab bag of mystery men from odd corners, but Mark Schmidt is still the Head Coach and usually comes up with some gems.
9. Rhode Island
Feel like Rhody is going to come together with returnees and new talent in Coach Archie Miller’s third season there.
10. UMass
Frank Martin is tenacious, but the team lost Cross and Cohen and faces a future in the MAC—where last year 8 of their 12 teams had a KenPom ranking below the worst in the A-10. Prognosis Negative.
11. Duquesne
Coming off their first tournament appearance in 47 years, the Dukes lost a Head Coach and a lot of players.
12. Davidson
Always lots of height, great shooting, and high basketball IQs. But not much speed, not much hops, not a lot of defensive intensity. Kevin McHale on a La-Z-Boy in 1987.
13. LaSalle
Say what you will about the program, but Fran Dunphy has not only kept the Explorers out of last place, he’s won 3 out of his 5 A-10 conference tournament games.
14. George Washington
The A-10 needs a healthy and successful GW program. James Bishop and Babatunde Akingbola graduated, and Maximus Edwards transferred from last year’s last-place team.
15. Fordham
The Rams haven’t appeared to be playing for each other since that nice season in 2022-23. Now they’re all gone from that team.
